Hi I'm Jared Barnes

I'm from Cedar City Utah. I love the creation process. Making something completely unique excites me, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an artist. I love painting pictures of Christ. I believe my testimony is born every time someone looks at my paintings. I also love to program. I love to make things function. I love to have an idea, and see that idea become a reality in a useful way.

Why I am a Mormon

Because I truly believe that it is Christ church on earth today. There are so many reasons why I believe that this is Christ church. One of those stories comes when I was 14 years old. I was playing basketball with one of my friends at home when I got an unexpected phone call from another one of my friends mother. She asked if I would like to go to Parowan Utah to listen to Pres Hinckley speak. I declined and said that I would rather play basketball. As I went back out to play I had the most awful feeling. Like I had made a horrible choice. This feeling moved me to call my friends mother back and tell her that I would like to go. I know that this feeling was the Spirit, and that I needed to go. My friends mother didn't know where we could go to listen, so she decided to ask some people at the high school where we should go. This turned out to be the best thing. We were in the wrong place at the right time. As my friends and I were reading Calvin and Hobbes. The Prophet walked by my friends mother and into a room. My friends mother was speechless, and I asked her what was the matter. She replied that the Prophet had just gone into the room right next to us. I couldn't believe it. I said well... if he went in that room, he has to come out some time. So all of us young men stood waiting for the Prophet to come out of the room. When the Prophet came out he said that he was happy to see us. He then began shaking our hands starting with my friend next to me. When my friend shook the Prophet's hand his face went completely blank and I couldn't understand why he would look so foolish in the Prophets presence. Well, the prophet shook my hand next, and my face went as blank as my friends. The feeling that ran through my body was like a wave of energy. It was undeniable that this was the Spirit testifying to me that he was a Prophet of God. I went home that day and wrote it in my journal. It was a special experience that I hold dear. Later in my life, I got married and my wife gave me a book. The book was about experinces that people had with Joseph Smith. As I read this book I came across several accounts that explained the exact feeling that I had with Pres. Hinckley but with Joseph Smith. This furthered my testimony in the truthfullness of the gospel. I love this church. I know its true, and I can't deny what I felt.

How I live my faith

I wish could say easily, but I think that living my faith takes time and desire. Faith is a strict obedience to the gospel that Christ taught. I don't feel like I live that perfectly, but I do know that when I do choose the right my life is sweeter, happier and more fulfilling.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Jared Barnes
I have met a lot of people who view this name with disgust. But this name means so much to me. Joseph wasn't a God, he was just a man with a mission that God gave him. He was a prophet. This is hard for some to accept, but I extend a challenge to everyone that doubts his mission to read the Book of Mormon, the Doctrine of Covenants, and other literature produced by him (Joseph Smith). Pray about it sincerely and I beleive you too will feel that he was a prophet of God. Show more Show less
