Hi I'm Cory

I'm a Mormon. That means I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

About Me

I am a husband and father of four. I am a lawyer and in my free time, I like to camp, fish, and go canyoneering. That is exploring slot canyons in Southern Utah. I love to cook -- especially, Thai and Japanese food. Sushi anyone? I like to share these activities with my family. I find that everything is more fun when we go together. I love my family!

Why I am a Mormon

There came a point in my life when I needed to know whether the gospel was true and whether Jesus Christ lives. From an early age, I had been taught about the Church and I had felt the influence of the Holy Ghost when others expressed their feelings about Christ and the truthfulness of the gospel. When I was eight years-old, I was invited to be baptized and be confirmed a member of the Church and I accepted. When I was about 15, I had begun to make more decisions in my life and I wanted to gain a individual spiritual confirmation whether the Book of Mormon is true. The Book of Mormon contains a promise that if a person reads it with a sincere heart and prays to know of it's truth, the Holy Ghost will confirm its truth. I began reading the Book of Mormon every night before going to sleep, I noticed that I was happier in my life, I began feeling good about the things I was reading and having impressions about how the scripture applied in my life. As I began to pray, about the Book of Mormon, I began to have undeniable warm, calm feelings that confirmed my impressions and thoughts. These experiences form the foundation of my convictions about Jesus Christ and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I know Jesus Christ lives and that He directs this Church through revelation to our Church leaders. I continue to have spiritual confirmation of these truths and I feel Christ's influence in my life.

How I live my faith

I have been asked to many different roles in my ward. Most of the time, I work with the 14 and 15 year-old boys. They are ordained to have priesthood authority and to minister to others in our ward. Teaching these young men leadership, standards for honesty, sexual purity, and to care for others is a big responsibility, but one that is very gratifying. Now, many of these young men are serving as missionaries in different parts of the world. It is wonderful for me to see how the gospel helps them be happy and to serve others.

What is the Law of Chastity?

The teachings of our Church place special emphasis on the importance of the family and by extension the power to procreate is held to be very sacred. In my life, I made the decision before my teenage years to only have sexual relationship with my wife, after I was married. This became my standard and I lived this until I was married at 24 years-old. Now, we have been married for 19 years and I am devoted to her. The standard for married members of the Church is to only have sexual relationships with their spouse to whom they are married. The stability of living this standard has been a source of happiness and trust in our marriage. Show more Show less
