Hi I'm Tom

I grew up in Minnesota, United States of America, I'm a Mormon.

About Me

During the summer I like to fish for most everything that swims in the lakes in our area, but mostly I enjoy fishing for walleyes with my brother-in-law. November often finds us hunting for whitetail deer in northern Wisconsin. When my four children were still at home we would take vacations by car, we have visited most of the states. Presently it is just my wife and me and one of our daughters, but sometimes we have one or more of our six grandchildren with us. I have two Boxer dogs who live with us. I cannot recall a time when there was not at least one dog in my home, though not all were boxers for the last thirty-five years they have been.

Why I am a Mormon

I would love to tell you all the reasons I'm a Mormon, but there isn't enough space here for that so I will tell you one of the reasons. I wasn't always a Mormon and I wasn't attending any church at the time, but the Holy Spirit told me to get ready and that I was to watch for what he was going to send me. After a few weeks he sent me the missionaries and they taught me about the restoration. They then asked me to do one simple thing, they asked that I pray and ask heavenly father if what they said was true. I did pray and received my answer that it was true and from that moment I knew that I wanted to be a Mormon. An additional fact about my meeting the missionaries is that they called me on the phone and this alone is remarkable because they don't call people unless there has been a referral or previous contact. I later asked the missionaries who originally contacted me why they called. They checked the records and could find no referral or any records prior to their first call. But I know the reason they did call, it is because they were sent by the Holy Spirit who had told me to get ready and to watch.

How I live my faith

I am a Ward Missionary , mostly means I work with the Missionaries and those who are new to our Church. I also serve as Church Service Missionary and serve at the Church storehouse (similar to a food shelve) in Minnesota.

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Tom
No, Mormons no longer practice polygamy. It was permitted from 1843 - 1890, it began as a command from the Lord as revealed to the Prophet Joseph Smith and ended as commanded from the Lord to the Prophet Woodruff Wilson. The practice has been continued by break offs from the Church but they aren't Mormons or members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. President Hinckley responded best to this question in 1998 “This Church has nothing whatever to do with those practicing polygamy. They are not members of this Church.... If any of our members are found to be practicing plural marriage, they are excommunicated, the most serious penalty the Church can impose. Not only are those so involved in direct violation of the civil law, they are in violation of the law of this Church." Show more Show less
