Hi I'm Isaac

I love my church.

About Me

I am currently a third-year law student in Virginia. I earned my undergraduate degree in Philosophy with a minor in linguistics. I love reading and the pursuit of knowledge. I am also very interested in political discourse.

Why I am a Mormon

My family have been members of the church for generations, I have an ancestor who was with the first Mormons to enter the Salt Lake valley, so it runs in my blood. But I'm not a Mormon just because my parents raised me that way, I'm a Mormon because I've come to that knowledge on my own. I remember as a little boy I asked my parents a simple question, what if Joseph Smith just made everything up? Instead of telling me not to think that, or that I shouldn't worry because he didn't, my dad asked me "what if he did?" From that time I've had the question in my head and in my heart - what if Joseph Smith just made this all up, this faith that my family has followed for generations... With that question in mind as a teenager I read the Book of Mormon. When I read the words that are in that book, I knew that they weren't the words of a man who was trying to swindle or cheat anybody - they were the words of ancient prophets of God. I prayed to know if the Book of Mormon was true, and through an experience I do not know how to describe, my mind was filled with a certainty of its truth. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and I know that the Book of Mormon is true. That is the cornerstone of my testimony of this gospel. Whenever any other question arises, I go back and ask myself - did Joseph Smith make it all up? God has answered my prayers, I know he did not - I have felt God's love and no matter how little I may understand, I know this is God's church.

How I live my faith

Living my faith means keeping my Heavenly Father and my Savior close to me in my heart and my mind at all times. I live my faith through seeking to be the person I can be and to emulate the Savior. In being the best person I can be, I bring joy and light into the lives of others and bless myself. Part of doing this is being a home teacher to many different members of our congregation who live in the area, as their home teacher I have the opportunity to go to their homes and visit with them, to bring them spiritual lessons, and most importantly to provide any needed service.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

We believe in the Bible because we believe in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God has always revealed his truths to the world through his servants, the prophets, and that is why we have the Bible. Unfortunately, shortly after Christ's death the prophets and apostles were killed and martyred and for centuries there were no new prophets. When Joseph Smith prayed to know which of the many churches was true, he sought God through prayer because of the Bible. Because of his faith, he was called as a prophet of God to continue the work that the prophets of the Bible began. Show more Show less
