Hi I'm Ashley

Service makes me happy.

About Me

I'm a happily married mother of an adorable three month old. My husband and I are about to graduate from college next month and then he will start a PhD program in the fall. I love my family and enjoy reading, classical music, and sports.

Why I am a Mormon

Many people who know me might think I'm a Mormon because my family is Mormon. My parents are Mormon and so have my grandparents and great-grandparents. But that is only how I learned about this great faith. The reason why I'm a Mormon today is not because of tradition or family pressure, it is because God answered my prayer. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints encourages all people everywhere to read the Book of Mormon, an ancient record that testifies of Christ, and then ask God if it is truly His word. After careful study and sincere prayer, I received my answer from our Heavenly Father. I know that He loves me and that He has a plan here on this earth. He will help me as I follow His teachings that are established in His church. My life has never been the same.

How I live my faith

As a follower of Jesus Christ, I strive to do as He does and think as He thinks. This requires lots of study and prayer to really know His will. It also requires obedience to all of His commandments so that I can be blessed with His guidance. Although I'm not perfect, I am trying to become a little more like Jeus Christ, our perfect example, everyday. I do this through sharing the good news of His gospel with those around me, helping and serving those in my community, and standing for truth and righteousness in all aspects of my life. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we are also given assignments to help and serve one another. I am currently working as a leader for the women in our local church meeting house. I am striving to help these good women increase their personal righteousness, strenthen home and families, and serve one another. I end up being taught so much by them as I serve.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Ashley
The Book of Mormon is another testament of Jesus Christ, just like the Bible testifies of Christ. The Bible was written by prophets that God called anciently in the Old World near Jerusalem. They received revelation from God and recorded His words so that all men could read and study them. But we know that other people were living in other parts of the world, far away from these prophets and the Bible. Because God loves all His children, He called other prophets in the New World during the same time the Bible was being written. These ancient American prophets also received God's revelation and recorded it on gold plates for the purpose of helping man know God's will. This record is called the Book of Mormon. After it was completed, the Book of Mormon was buried and hid from the earth for hundreds of years. Joseph Smith, a newly called prophet, in 1823 was guided by the Lord to the place the record was buried and instructed to translate it into English. The Book of Mormon contains the doctrine of Christ and instruction for our day on how to increase our faith in Him. The Bible and Book of Mormon work together to teach us of God's plan for us and how we and our families can return to Him. I know the Book of Mormon is the word of God and was preserved and prepared for us so that we can know His will in a world with so many different opinions. As I've read it and pondered the words, I have been helped time and time again with answers to questions and solutions to problems. Show more Show less
