Hi I'm Debie Washburn

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am an "at-home mom". I have a degree in Marketing from BYU that I joke and say I use to go to the market. I have four children and have been married for 25 years. I get to plan the summer camp for the Young Women at church, which I love doing. I am active in the Boy Scouts of America (I have three Eagle Scout sons), I have coached soccer, I enjoy listening to books, sewing and good times with family and friends.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because to me it is a lifeboat in the swirling sea called my life. I first became active in the Mormon church when I was 15 and believe it or not I actually found peace in all the guidelines. I can attest that kids do like boundaries. I had very little support in my single parent home and no guidance on how to live my life. I kind of felt like a little raft set to float with no direction. When I started going to church I finally had a purpose and I felt something that I had never felt before. I suddenly knew who I was and that I was important to God. It was so nice to belong to an organization that cared about me and was willing to accept me with all my mistakes and faults. My membership in the Mormon Church has had great influence on my life. I have learned many important things while improving my faith in my Savior Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I live my faith every day by leading and teaching my family and others. I hope to teach good qualities by leading by example. I have been fortunate to be able to volunteer my time in coaching soccer and leading Boy Scouts of America. It is a great opportunity to work with kids and teach them skills that will help them to better succeed in life and to let them know that they are worth my time and effort. It has been fun to watch the kids blossom into responsible students, husbands, and fathers. I am not sure who learns more in the effort, the kids or me.

Are Mormons Christians?

Debie Washburn
I would say yes. Do Christians believe in Jesus Christ? Yes. Well so do Mormons, in fact he is the center of our whole faith. Do Christians believe in God the Father and in the Holy Ghost? Yes. Well, so do Mormons. We believe that God the Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost (or spirit) come together as the Godhead. By answering yes to our faith in the Godhead I think that is what qualifies us as Christian. Show more Show less
