Hi I'm Bennie Harris

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in North Carolina to Protestant parents who gave me a strong biblical faith. Still, many questions remained in my spiritual education. I met the Missionaries in 1976 when I was 28 years old and was baptized less than six weeks later. I love the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and I know and bear testimony that it is the Church and Kingdom of God upon this earth!

Why I am a Mormon

Why wouldn't I be? I know this Church is true and I know it is the restored Church of Jesus Christ. I know Joseph Smith was a prophet and I know the Book of Mormon is true. I know that all the saving rites, sacraments and ordinances of the Priesthood which are required for us to return and live with our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are found only in this Church. Why wouldn't I be a Mormon?

How I live my faith

My wife and I recently received our mission call to the Michigan Lansing Mission. This will be just one step in our wonderful journey together. I try to live my faith by seeking to know and do the will of the Lord in my life -- every day. In addition to all the Church work (Stake Sunday School president, home teacher, Boy Scout Committee, etc.) I try to remember all that my Savior has done for me and then do all I can for my fellowman. I try to be a good neighbor, honest and helpful; and I love to share the Gospel with those I meet. I want to be found pleasing to my Heavenly Father and his Holy Son and this requires that my faith be the center of my life. Of course, within that center is my fantastic family. I have much to learn and need much improvement, but I have truly enjoyed every step and every lesson so far!

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Bennie Harris
Somewhat like the Holy Bible, the Book of Morman was written by a series of prophets over a period of about 1,000 years as instructed by the Lord. It stands as another testimony of Jesus Christ and contains the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Just as anciently, God still speaks to the Earth through his chosen prophets. It was one of these prophets, Joseph Smith, Jr., who translated the original text into what is the Book of Mormon. Joseph Smith, Jr. did not write the Book of Mormon, he merely translated what had been written by other prophets. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell to you there is a God?

Bennie Harris
The Psalmist has written that "all things denote there is a God." I know that God lives and cares for me bacause I have sought this knowledge through prayer, scripture study, church attendance, fasting and living the commandments as best I can. Because I sought, I found. Not only has the Holy Ghost bore witness to me of the exisitence of a Heavenly Father and His son, Jesus Christ, but I have felt their hand in many of the things I have experienced. My wife and I have reared three wonderful sons. Each worked his way through college after serving full-time missions. All married in the Temple and two are fathers. I know that my wife and I could not have reached this pinnacle without divine help from God. There were many times in the rearing of these sons that God led my wife and me to make specific decisions and to take specific actions. But the rearing of our children is only one way I know there is a God. There are numberless ways and space is limited, but suffice it to say, I know God lives. Anyone can know by seeking Him.
