Hi I'm Rich

I'm a Mormon. I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, a husband, father, and a grandfather.

About Me

I am a husband a father and a grandfather. I have been married for 38 wonderful years and have 7 children and 13 grandchildren. We have lived in Murray, Utah for the past 29 years where we have raised our children and where I have been a practicing Obstetrician / Gynecologist since 1981. I love delivering babies and have considered it a great privilege to get to help women with this most sacred privilege that Heavenly Father has blessed them with. I am always in awe at the special trust that a woman is blessed with as she conceives, delivers, and nurtures these special spirits that come from a loving Heavenly Father.  Our family is our most sacred treasure and thus it has been a great privilege in helping others develop their families and experience for themselves what a great blessing that is!

Why I am a Mormon

My name is Rich. I was raised in Kansas and Nebraska by a hardworking father, who worked for the Railroad for over 50 yrs., and a stay at home mother, who most resembled June Cleaver on the “Leave it to Beaver” series. Our religious upbringing was predominantly Presbyterian. When we moved to a new community we chose our church based upon the most appealing pastor in the local congregations. Job transfers took my family to Salt Lake City where we found ourselves surrounded by friends of the Latter Day Saints faith. While in college I joined a fraternity group that was half LDS young men and half “wild and crazy” members of other faiths. I found myself admiring the former and found myself wondering what they had that I lacked. Some wonderful neighbors befriended me and offered me Sunday dinner if I would come to church with them. Seemed like a bargain to me! They introduced me to a friend of theirs who was a new Institute teacher teaching a Book of Mormon class and he asked if I would attend. I did and before long I was asking, “How can I contact the missionaries?” Bingo! Next thing I know I am praying for and receiving answers to my prayers and entering the waters of baptism. A little over a year later I married the most wonderful girl and we have had 7 beautiful children together. I have enjoyed over thirty years of medical practice as an Obstetrician / Gynecologist in the Salt Lake City area and am now beginning missionary service in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission with my “eternal companion” now becoming my “missionary companion” as well. The Gospel is true!! Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ, in answer to his humble prayer! He translated the Book of Mormon by divine inspiration and restored the church in its correct form to the earth today. Thomas S. Monson is a living prophet today and communicates with Our Heavenly Father for all mankind. We have a message that will bless the lives of anyone who will sincerely listen to it!

How I live my faith

I previously served as the Mission Leader of our local ward. It was great fun getting to work with both Full time and Part time Missionaries who were trying to share our gospel message. Prior to this calling I served as a Sunday School teacher for Young Single Adults ages 18-30 and I learned that the teacher is the one who is blessed to learn the most from that experience. Now my wife and I have the privilege of leading the missionary effort in the Tennessee Knoxville Mission as we recently began our service there as Mission President and companion. We love the young men and women and senior couples that we are able to serve with in this beautiful part of the country!

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

God is our loving Heavenly Father. We are literally his children, created in His image. We are not perfect, but He is and we want to be more like Him. Our time here on earth is our opportunity to work to be more like Him by learning, growing, experiencing challenges and getting a little bit better every day. We want to be like He is so that we can eventually return to live with Him someday. Show more Show less

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

When I was searching for the answer to the existence of God, I distinctly remember a day when I was praying in the beautiful canyons that surround Salt Lake City. As I knelt in prayer I felt the most wonderful witness that the answer was, "All around me" in the beauty and grandeur of the world in which we live. It was in the amazing mathematical correctness of the universe and in the fact that this all had to have come about as part of a grand design rather than from random chaos. The world is magnificent and God is it's Creator. Show more Show less
