Hi I'm Ryan

I'm from Southern California. I love to play basketball. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I am a 19 year old college student, and currently a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving in Calgary Canada and speaking Spanish. I love spending time with my family and friends. I am the oldest of 5 children. I enjoy playing and watching all sports, mostly basketball. I enjoy living an active lifestyle, working out, and watching the Lakers. I love going to the beach and enjoying the ocean and sun.

Why I am a Mormon

I know that this is the true Church of Jesus Christ! I know with all my heart that this church is led by Jesus Christ through a living prophet on the earth. We live our lives in accordance with The Book of Mormon, another testament of Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon is such a powerful book. As I read it, I have a feeling that enters my soul, a feeling I only get while reading The Book of Mormon. We learn how we can return to live with our Heavenly Father again from the Book of Mormon. We learn how we can live with our family for time and all eternity. It is a beautiful thought. As a member of Christ's true church, my life and my family has been blessed tremendously by living in accordance with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

How I live my faith

I am living my faith by serving as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I am devoting two years of my life to teach people about this gospel. I have had to make many sacrifices to serve this mission. I have taken a break in my college classes, and I cannot see my family or friends for two years. We are not required to serve a mission for this church. However, I chose to not see my family and friends for 2 years and serve God. The only reason I chose to do this is because I know that the message of this church is true, and I want to share with people the many blessings I have received because of my membership. If this church was not true, I would never give up all I love to serve a mission. I know this is Christ's church.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Ryan
Mormon temples are very sacred places for members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. In order for members to gain access to temples, we must live worthily and in accordance with all of the laws and commandments God has given us. In temples, we receive instruction about how we should live our lives. We are also sealed there, or married for time and all eternity. Marriages in the temple will last forever, and not end when we die. Show more Show less

What is the priesthood?

Ryan
The Priesthood is the authority to act in the name of God. It is the power of God. For example, if you were driving along the road and an ice cream truck came behind you, trying to get you to pull over, would you pull over? Probably not. However, if it was a cop, would you pull over then? I think yes. The ice cream man does not have the proper authority to pull you over, so you can disregard it. Same thing with the Priesthood. Things such as bapstism must be done with the Priesthood, the authority from God. When Christ died, this priesthood was taken from the earth. However, because God loves us, He has brought His Priesthood to the earth again through the Prophet Joseph Smith. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Saints has this priesthood from God through Joseph Smith, so we have the proper authority to baptize, etc. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

Ryan
We do not drink coffee, tea, alcohol, or use other drugs because we have been commanded not to by God. During the 1830s, Joseph Smith received revelation from God about harmful substances that affect our agency, or ability to make wise choices. It is interesting that Joseph Smith received this revelation from God before there was scientific evidence that these things are harmful to our bodies. This revelation is called the Word of Wisdom. We are asked to abstain from things that cause us to become addicted to them. Because we can become addicted to coffee because of it's high caffeine level, we do not partake. By obeying the Word of Wisdom, we are promised tremendous blessings, such as a healthy body and clear and precise mind. I have benefited greatly in my life by living the Word of Wisdom. Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Ryan
We do not worship Joseph Smith. The only people we worship are Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. We frequently speak and honor Joseph Smith beacuse God restored His gospel through Joseph Smith, and he made many sacrifices for us. Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and we do not worship prophets. However, we are grateful for what Joseph Smith did for us. Show more Show less
