Hi I'm Jared

I'm a Mormon Missionary serving in Canada

About Me

I'm twenty years old and I love being active and in the outdoors. My favorite things to do are to go backpacking or hiking or camping... and i love music. I play guitar and a little bit of piano. Hangin' out with friends is great too, and some of the best memories i have is just having a bonfire with some friends on a friday night.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church and had awesome parents that tried to raise me in the best way they could. I will always appreciate them and how much they have done for me. So i attended church all throughout my middle and high school years. After i graduated from high school, I felt like i needed to be out on my own and to do things the way i wanted to do them, and so, despite my parents concern, i moved out and lived on my own in a city not far from home. I never had really developed much of a desire to be a missionary, as most young men in the Church do, and felt like I could handle myself better away from the rules and principles that i had been taught as a child. I spent about a year on my own, and discovered that things weren't going as well as i had imagined in my mind. I was struggling with a relationship with a girl that wasn't working out, work was slow and i was hard pressed to pay rent, and I just felt empty inside. Most people outside of the Church would say they felt like something was missing... and thats how I felt, except i knew what was missing... i was just too stubborn to seek after it again. Eventually, through moving home to my parents, who were understanding and loving, and through the help of some very special people, i was able to sort of stabilize myself... but i still felt that emptiness... until one night i knelt down and prayed for help from God to lift the burdens i had been feeling for so long. The most wonderful feeling of warmth and comfort flooded over me as i knelt there, and i knew then that God did still love me and that by obeying what i had been taught i would be able to find happiness again. I determined within myself that i was going to do everything i could to serve God and to follow His commandments, because i had found out by my own experience that those things were true... not because i had been taught them my whole life and had never known anything else. That same answer and understanding can come to anyone who sincerely wants to know the truth of the principles of Christs' Church. If we really want to know, and have a real desire to act on the answer we receive, then God will answer us, because He loves us and wants us to know how we can return to Him.

How I live my faith

Currently I am serving as a full-time Missionary in the Canada Edmonton Mission (basically its an area around Edmonton, Alberta) So I have the chance of serving anywhere from Edmonton, to Ft. St. John, BC, to Ft. McMurray, AB( I was there for 7 1/2 months) to Yellowknife, NWT. I spend each day of the week going out and teaching people that understanding and knowing that God loves us and has a plan for us can make us happy and bring joy in our lives, and that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. Through following his Gospel and the commandments He has given us, both when he was on the Earth, and those that come to us today through living prophets, we can find out just what our potential is and what God wants for us. Its the greatest experience i've had in my life, and serving others and truly wanting to help them become happy is the most worthwhile pursuit i can have in life right now.

What do Mormons believe about Jesus Christ? Do Mormons believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God?

Jared
Yes we do believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We believe He was our Savior, that He suffered for all of us in the Garden of Gethsemane, died on the cross at Golgotha, and was ressurected from the tomb. He is our perfect example in everything we do, and taught us how we should live, treat others, and worship our Father in Heaven. He loves us so much and knows each of us personally, and knows how best to help us overcome our problems. He is the center of everything we know to be true, and for me He is a friend who will always be there for us, no matter how far we sink or how far we wander away. Show more Show less
