Hi I'm Matt

I love music, I'm a nerd, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Music is a huge part of my life. I love to play music: piano, guitar, bass, as well as sing. I spent high school in a show choir. There is just something really neat about all the different ways you can make music. Right now I am a student. I want to be an electrical engineer when I finish school, just like my dad. I guess being a nerd is just in my blood. I love circuits and making electricity do awesome things. If something is broken, I always try to fix it myself before I replace it. Another hobby of mine is going on camping or backpacking trips. I love adventures, like geocaching. I just love being outside. Being out by yourself under the stars is a feeling you get few other places.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised as a member of this church. I continue to follow it's teachings because they are good. I have seen the blessing the church has been in the lives of those around me, including my own. I believe that God answers my prayers, many times I have had questions--even simple ones that are of little consequence--and they have been answered. I can tell that God loves us, so much. Every time I think about it I just feel happy and at peace. I don't know all the answers, but I know through prayer, that this is where I should be. I love the Gospel of Christ, and I love to serve. That's why I'm a Mormon..

How I live my faith

I love being able to participate in different jobs. I feel like it really gives me a chance to try out different strengths I may (or may not) have. For about a year I was the music director in my congregation. I wasn't very good, in fact I imagine I was pretty terrible. I really enjoyed the opportunity to get to try something different. One of my favorite jobs in the church was serving as the Emergency Communications Specialist. We ran through drills and training to ensure that in an emergency we would be able to provide for the community, as well as maintain communication between authorities and the church. Another of my favorite parts of being a member is that every one of us gets to be a missionary. I don't mean the people with the shirts and ties, but every day, every hour we are examples to everyone around us. We can and ought to share what we know.

Why do Mormons perform baptisms for the dead?

Matt
Like we read in the bible, baptism is necessary to enter the kingdom of heaven. We know though, that lots of people have not even had the chance to hear about Christ. By performing baptisms for the dead, these people can accept this ordinance done for them. However, we also believe that the deceased person still has a choice--It will not be forced on anyone.
