Hi I'm Kevan

My family and I are members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints living in Interior Alaska.

About Me

My wife Sheri & our kids James, David, Julia, Bella, & Katie live in the heart of Alaska. I was introduced to the Church in 1994 by Sheri. A year after I was baptized, both Sheri & I were called on missions for the Church for about two years. Sheri & I were married in the Anchorage Alaska Temple in 1999. I'm now working towards my license as a Marriage & Family Therapist in Alaska.

Why I am a Mormon

I've lived various faiths in my life, but none invigorated me as much as The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. I had a strong witness of the Savior when I met my wife-to-be Sheri, while I was stationed at an army post in Alaska in 1994. On one of our first dates Sheri said "I'm going to be married in the temple, & to be married in the temple you have to be a Mormon". I soon spoke to my pastor about this church & he gave me a book on how to "convert Mormons to Christianity", because he'd been told Mormons did not believe in Christ. Sheri & I entered into a deal that I would go to her church & take her missionary discussions, if she would reciprocate. After eight months of trying to save my girlfriend & her family from a "cult" & lying to the missionaries about reading the Book of Mormon I decided I needed to listen to God, rather than join because of Sheri or not join because my pastor told me not to. After spending a day & night doing nothing but reading the Book of Mormon, I prayed & received the answer in my mind & heart that "the Book of Mormon is from God; Because the Book of Mormon is from God; Joseph Smith Jr. who translated it by the power of God was God's Prophet; If Joseph Smith Jr. was God's prophet, then the church he organized is Christ's". With this new conviction I asked to be baptized in June 1995. Through daily experience I know The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the Savior's church restored on Earth & that all people in & out of this Church are potential heirs of our Father in Heaven's kingdom. This is a practical Church, not just for Sundays, that is ready at a moment's notice to help people of all faiths.

How I live my faith

The Savior's teachings are infused into every aspect of my life throughout the week, because I've made that an active decision. I am currently a Sunday School Teacher leading discussions on the New Testiment- each year we rotate between the different scriptures of the Bible, Book of Mormon, Doctrine & Covenants, & the Pearl of Great Price. In the church there is no professional ministry (ie: those who have gone through a university towards employment as a full-time minister) & so, most of the adult men & adolescent boys hold the Holy Priesthood. As a Prieshood-holder I meet with a few families monthly to assure that their temporal & spiritual needs are doing well- this is called Home Teaching. As a Prieshood-holder, I am a companion to my wife in assuring our family will be together forever. When my wife & I were married, we were also "Sealed for time & all eternity" with the children we would have. Sealed for time and all eternity means that as we collectively & daily strive for a Christ-centered home, we can be together forever as a family. This can all be pretty tough with daily demands, but I'm blessed with closeness to ALL my family as I follow my Savior Jesus Christ.
