Hi I'm Lisa

I am a wife, mother and distance runner. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in New Jersey, but grew up near Salt Lake City, Utah. I come from a family of 5, including my parents, one older sister, me, and my younger sister. I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood/Special Education at Brigham Young University/Idaho and served a Mission for my church in Zurich Switzerland where I learned to speak German. I used to work as a Kindergarten teacher. I was married in the Salt Lake City, UT Temple, to my best friend, Jim. We live in Colorado Springs, CO, and I am now a mom of two active little boys, with another on the way. I enjoy being in the outdoors, running, biking and hiking long distances. I love to travel and meet and learn about people.

Why I am a Mormon

This is a question, that although has a lot of stories and experiences behind it, has a really simple answer. I am a Mormon, because I know in my heart that it is true. This is independent of what anyone, including family or friends may say or do. As I've searched for answers, I have received them, for myself. As I have prayed, I have received answers. As I have put the Lord to the test, He has, in many different ways, made himself known unto me. It is something that I cannot deny.

How I live my faith

I try to watch my thoughts and actions everyday, and I hope that they are in accordance with what my Savior, and my Heavenly Father would have me do. I believe that the purpose of this life is to live again with and become like our Heavenly Father. Of course, we are not perfect, so we were given a Savior Jesus Christ who came to this Earth to die for us, and make it possible for us to repent of our wrongs everyday, and help us to make it back with Him and our Heavenly Father and become like Him. There is opposition in this world, and I know that Satan is real. There is good and bad, and we are all given the opportunity to choose what we will do everyday. I know that when I am living my life doing what Jesus would do, and do what's right, that I feel joy in my life. That feeling of Joy is a blessing that the Lord gives to us. Everything I do, whether it's keeping the commandments, serving people, praying, going to church, is all because of this belief that I have.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Lisa
The Book of Momon is another record of Jesus Christ. The Bible was written by prophets who lived on one side of the World, and the Book of Mormon is the record written by prophets on the other side of the World, the Americas. It begins with the record of a prophet named Lehi, who left Jerusalem 600 years before Christ was born. He took his family, as commanded by God, and they sailed to another part of the world, which today would be somewhere in the Americas. Lehi and his family developed the area into a great civilization, and they kept record of their lives and experiences, especially those relating to God and Jesus Christ. The records were passed down from generation to generation, prophet to prophet. All the prophets testified of the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. They looked forward to the day that He would come. There were also people who were against the teachings of the prophets and the prophecies of Jesus Christ. They ridiculed and persecuted them. But Jesus Christ did come. He was born of Mary, on the other side of the world in Bethlehem. Those people that lived in the Americas saw signs of his birth, and His death. The pinnacle of the Book is when the Ressurected Christ comes to the Americas to visit the people there. Christ taught the people on the American continent, just as he taught the people on the other continent. Christ's visit to the Americas is recorded in the Book of Mormon. The Book of Mormon gets it's name, "Mormon" because this was the name of a prophet who compiled the writings of all the prophets together into one book. He lived about 400 years after Christ's death. He lived during a time when most of those around him were not believers, and his son, Moroni, was the last to write in the Book. Moroni buried the Book as dictated by the Lord, because the people were wicked and did not believe the words. The people who remained in the Americas at the time are the ancestors of the present day American Indians. 1400 years later, another Prophet, Joseph Smith, was called by the Lord, and was directed to the place that the prophet Moroni had buried the record. Joseph Smith, through the power of God, translated the book into English. I believe strongly in the Bible and the Book of Mormon as testaments of Jesus Christ. The unique and special thing about the Book of Mormon, is that it was only translated ONE time by Joseph Smith, unlike the Bible which has gone from translator to translator to give us what we have today as the Bible. Many important truths were lost from the Bible during the process of translation, but the Book of Mormon, because of this fact, is the most correct book on earth, and helps us to understand more of God's truths. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I love this book. There is a promise at the end of the Book of Mormon, that the prophet Moroni wrote before he sealed the book up and buried it so many years ago. He said, "And when ye shall read these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you by the power of the Holy Ghost. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things." This is how I know it's true. Because I asked God. He is the best source to go to to understand what is true and what is not. The more I read the Book of Mormon, the more my testimony of it is solidified. I feel so much peace, and joy, and cannot deny what is written in there as being true. I challenge anyone who has not read it, to read it, and do what I have done. Ask God if it is true, with a sincere heart. You will get an answer. Show more Show less
