Hi I'm Mark

I'm self employed, love the outdoors and Branch President of the San Jose Branch.

About Me

I'm owner of a handyman/home improvement company. I've always enjoyed working with my hands and love the variety of things that people ask me to do. My mission is to make their house feel like home. My wife, Carla, and I have been married for 20 years. She is from Panama. I had never thought I'd marry someone from another country...never even gave it any thought. Then, after I returned from a two year mission to Spain we met, I fell in love with her, she fell in love with me, and here we are! We have 5 sons ranging in age from 19 years old to 10 years old. My oldest son is currently a missionary serving in the California Oakland-San Francisco Mission (Spanish-speanking). Our family is very involved in Scouting. Our oldest son earned his Eagle Scout award. Our second son is just about there and our third son just started in Boy Scouts. Our twin 10 year old sons are in Cub Scouting.

Why I am a Mormon

I love science and I love history. If there is one thing that is sure, they both change. As we find out more in either field, old theories are thrown out and new theories formed. The teachings of the Savior don't change. They are a solid rock upon which my wife and I have been able to build our marriage, grow our family, and upon which we know will allow us to stay together forever.

How I live my faith

Sometimes I feel like I should get a bed up at the meetinghouse. As branch president I get to work a lot with the youth of our congregation. I also get to counsel with members as they work to overcome obstacles in their lives and grow closer to Christ. As a family we pray and read the scriptures nightly. We have Family Home Evenings weekly. We attend our church meetings together and strive to make our home a place where all are welcome. While I'm out and about in the community working for others, I strive to be an example of a good Mormon. I like to be treated fairly and strive to live my life treating others the same.

Who was Joseph Smith?

A lot of people outside the church have the belief that we worship Joseph Smith and that we aren't really Christian. I enjoy helping people understand that we don't worship Joseph Smith, but we revere him as an important prophet of God. It was through him and other early leaders that Jesus Christ was able to restore the priesthood, reestablish His church on the Earth once more, and again preach the Gospel in all it's fullness.
