Hi I'm Jon.

I'm a husband, father, and learning professional. I love helping people become better. And I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I'm married to my eternal sweetheart and we have four children, a St. Bernard and an African spur-thigh tortoise (named Yortoise). I served as a missionary in the Japan Kobe Mission. I earned a bachelors degree in Political Science from Brigham Young University and a doctorate in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma. After working in higher education for 10 years, I transitioned to the corporate world as a training and development professional. I love watching movies, playing games with my family, and taking pictures.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were married in the Salt Lake Temple. I am the youngest of 10 children. By the time I was born, Mormonism wasn't just a label but a way of life for my family. Growing up, the question wasn't so much whether I was or would remain a Mormon, but what I would do about being a Mormon--that is, how would I go about living my life as a Mormon. Gradually, however, I realized that I was first and foremost a Christian. I love my Savior Jesus Christ and am proud to be called a Christian. There came a time--when I was 18, shortly before my mission--when I had to decide for myself whether or not what I had been taught growing up in my family was really true. Through earnest study and prayer, I received my personal witness, through the Holy Ghost, that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is indeed the embodiment of Christian teaching and living. In the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I find a perfect expression of my Christian faith. I am far from a perfect Christian, although I strive to be a better follower of Jesus Christ every day. My associations with my fellow "saints" (the term we choose to call fellow Mormons), I am instructed and encouraged in my strivings to draw closer to and better emulate the teachings of the Master, Jesus Christ.

How I live my faith

I love the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It brings me happiness, stability, and peace in an otherwise stressful and tumultuous world. I pray several times a day. I begin each and end each day on my knees by my bed, communing with my Heavenly Father, asking him to guide me in the paths that He would have me walk. I often have a prayer in my heart throughout the day--to know what to say, how to say it, what to do, what not to do--to be a better husband, father, and employee. I also love reading the scriptures. Since I commute to work, I often listen to the scriptures. And we (at least try to) read scriptures together as a family each night. In the scriptures, I find the doctrines of the Gospel, stories of faith, and nuggets of wisdom that help me to be a better Christian and a better man.
