Hi I'm Larry

I'm a Mormon. And I'm a Texan!

About Me

I'm a music business owner and a professional photographer. My wife and I are the parents of 3 sons and have been married for 33 years.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in a Latter-day Saint home - with a mother who was a member and a father who showed no religious activity at all. Even though the pattern of church activity led my young life - I still had to find out for myself the truthfulness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the LDS Church. If there really is a true church on the earth (and their is) someone has to be born into it - right! That was my quest to determine. A favorite teaching of mine in the Book of Mormon teaches that we learn "line upon line and precept upon precept". That is true of both good and evil. However, only the Holy Ghost will testify to us of the truth we learn. As I matured I saw how my life was different from my school-boy friends, many of whom made bad decisions and ended up in bad places. I saw others ruin their life when sometimes I ignorantly followed the better path - not always knowing why - but knowing that it simply "felt right". Looking back I realize that was the Light of Christ and the Holy Ghost guiding me to follow the commandments. As I plan my future I am compelled to follow the same course of obedience to the Lord's teachings because that is what has brought me such peace in this world of confusion. I have, on occasion, had great testimony building experiences in life. Each has come with a firm confirmation from the Holy Ghost that the true church of Jesus Christ has been restored. But those events are few indeed when compared to the daily reinforcement that comes from the simple things like living a Christlike life. Reading, pondering and praying about the Book of Mormon and the Bible have been a continual key to the strength of my testimony. Like putting on armor before a battle, we must stay close to the Lord through personal study and obedience to commandments. The true church really has been restored. We each must find out for ourselves!

How I live my faith

In the LDS church we all participate by accepting and filling what we term a "calling". These are basically assignments where you agree to fill responsible positions in the church and do your part donating your time and talents to make it work. Building the Kingdom of God on earth is what "callings" are all about. Right now I am serving as the "Ward Mission Leader" in our Ward. A "ward" is what we call a geographical unit of members in the church. I work with our full-time missionaries and other ward missionaries to teach the Gospel. It is a new calling for me so I am still "learning the ropes" you might say. I know it will be important for us to be involved with the full-time missionaries as we fellowship those persons who are showing first interest in what the missionaries are teaching them. We will go on teaching opportunities with them when necessary and also invite "investigators" to our own homes to get acquainted and let them see that LDS families are ordinary people in their community that simply live the doctrines of the Gospel. That part is easy - there is no acting! To me missionary work is exciting as we find the honest in heart who are ready to hear and accept the Gospel into their lives. Some accept it and others turn away. It is exciting to make new friends either way and so very important to ask investigators to find out for themselves.
