Hi I'm Cheryl

I'm a Student and Volunteer and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the youngest of 7 kids in my family. I am currently an student at my local university. I am studying Accounting, but am considering other degrees... And, I volunteer at a local elementary school and tutor students in reading.

Why I am a Mormon

I haven't always known that being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was the path for me. I had a rough childhood. My Father wasn't around much and when he was, it wasn't a positive atmosphere. My parents divorced my senior year of high school and I spiraled downward. In high school I really struggled to know if the teachings of the Church were true especially the Book of Mormon. I moved 2 hours away from my hometown to attend college. That first year I really struggled and was not active in the Church. I didn't know if it was true and was not ready to figure it out. My second year of college I moved into an apartment with 5 active members of the Church. And I saw how the Gospel affected them in such a positive way. I was curious and was ready to figure it out for my self. I started to go to church every week and read the Book of Mormon for me. So that I could learn if it was true or not. I didn't have an amazing "It's True" experience, but I did begin to feel at peace and I started to feel a change within myself. Deep down I just knew... Every page of the Book of Mormon speaks of Christ. Testifies of Him. I came to know Christ. He is my Savior and Redeemer. He knows me and knows what I am going through every single day. He loves me as if I am the only person alive... He loves each and every person that has ever lived in that same way! I know that the doctrine of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's Doctrine. I know that He is the only way I can return to my Father in Heaven and dwell with Them forever. I know that Heavenly Father has a plan for me and the only way I can succeed is by turning my life over to Christ and do the best I can to live according to His Gospel. I come closer to Christ and Heavenly Father by reading the Bible and the Book of Mormon, because they teach of Them.

How I live my faith

I love to volunteer in my community. I recently started volunteering at an inner-city elementary school. I tutor students in reading and it is the most rewarding thing, not only for them, but for me to see the blessings that I have on a daily basis.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Cheryl
A testimony a spiritual witness given to you by the Holy Ghost. It is a knowledge that Jesus Christ lives and is the Son of God, that he came to earth, suffered in the Garden of Gethsemane, died on the cross, and rose again on the third day. It is also a knowledge that Joseph Smith is a prophet, called of God, and that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is Christ's restored church on the earth today. Show more Show less
