Hi I'm Spencer.

I am a lover of people, of music, and above all of God. I am a 'Mormon'.

About Me

I am 20 years old and i am currently serving as a full-time missionary in the Switzerland, Geneva mission. I love writing music with my friends, and having a great time. I love to laugh, and am always trying to keep the mood light. I really love to help other people and make a difference in peoples lives. The best feelings i get are after i have had the chance to help someones life improve in any way. I LOVE French and am loving studying it. Some hobbies of mine include writing and playing music (singing, guitar, piano), playing basketball, playing video games, hanging out with my friends, watching movies or great TV shows, dancing, wakeboarding, snowboarding, or anything that just sounds fun like random beach bonfires. A little about my life: I was born in the Phillippines and moved around a bit with my dad being in the Air Force for a while. But we settled down in California after a while and I spent most of my time there. Last year I got the chance to live up in the Portland area in Oregon and work for my dad. I made some great new friends and learned a lot of great life lessons while i was there. I took some classes at the local college while working and writing music.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a "Mormon" because I want to live the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Christ invites us all to follow him, and keep his commandments, and I believe in Christ and want to do just that. I am a Mormon because i have seen and felt miraculous things in my life. I have read the Book of Mormon and prayed asking God if it is true, and recieved an undeniable answer that it is. I am Mormon because the Church of Jesus Christ truly has been restored and so has Christ's priesthood. I am a Mormon because i want to live with my family for all of time and eternity, and i know that when we are sealed by His priesthood authority, we can be with our family forever. Simply, i belong to this Church for one reason: I know its teachings to be true. I recieved a witness from God through the Holy Ghost, and i can't deny it.

How I live my faith

I try to live my faith in all that i do. Currently i am living my faith by giving 2 years of my time to God, to teach people about Jesus Christ, His gospel, and the opportunity to find peace and happiniess through it. At home, i participated in youth and later young adult activites that gave me a chance to have a great time with people who share my standards. I live my faith by obeying the commandments God has given me. I feel so happy as i live those commandments. Most of them are common sense anyways, i mean, staying away from drugs, alchohol, coffee, and things like that just makes sense. Taking care of my body allows me to feel great, have tons of energy through the day, accomplish my goals and extend my time here on earth. Following God's commandments on chastity mean i know i wont have any children before i am ready, and have a wife that will be also ready to raise them properly. I dont have to worry about the diseases or other complications that come with that either. It helps me to focus on treating women with the respect they deserve and not as objects for pleasure. Women should be treasured, and living God's commandments allows me to do just that. I LOVE attending church each week. It is the one day i get to just relax and turn my thoughts in gratitude towards He who has provided all I have. To spend time worshiping.... singing, learning, etc.... invigorates me for the week ahead and keeps me humble and focused. The commandments are liberating, and i have a strong testimony that they are given to us from God, in love, for OUR benefit.

How are modesty and chastity related? How can parents teach their children to be modest in dress, language and behavior?

Spencer.
Modesty is incredibly important. When we dress immodestly, we show a lack of self confidence and self respect that we try to compensate for by being sexually appealing. This relates to chastity because when we show are body innapropriatly, we are sending a message to those who see us that arouses them and causes them to view us as a sexual object instead of a person. It leads others to innapropriate thoughts about us, and thoughts lead to actions. We are making a choice about who we are, what our standards are, and what morality we follow when we dress. To focus on dressing modestly is to make a desicion as to our self worth and self confidence, it is a decision to help others keep pure thoughts, and it is a decision to want to enjoy emotionally strong and intense relationships that are satisfing instead of skin deep realtionships with those who will treat you like an object for their pleasure. How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

Spencer.
The way we can come to know our Father in Heaven is simple. But it has to start with a real desire to know him. If we want to know Him, or want to know that he is there, or anything, we must kneel down and pray to Him. After all, its pretty hard to ask a question to your best friend if you dont pick up the phone and dial.... and in the same way, we need to kneel with pure intent and give thanks to God for all our many blessings, ask God to bless us with help in fulfilling the righteous desires of our heart, and ask Him to help us understand His will. As we come to know Him and come to understand His will, our faith and love will grow. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Spencer.
To know the truth of anything, we must ask God through prayer. In Matt.. Ch.7 Verses 15-20, christ warns of false prophets to come. He says that ye shall know them by their fruit interesting that many churches claim that there can be no more prophetes, yet if that is the case, why is christ teaching how to discern prophets to come in the last days? Wouldn't he have just said that there would be no more prophetes?. The fruit of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints is the Book of Mormon. While there are many other fruits of the church such as humanitarian aid, church welfare programs, etc., there is only one way to know if the Church is true. Read the Book of Mormon. Pray and ask God to tell you through the Holy Ghost if it is true. I know that he will answer your prayer, because he has answered mine. Meeting with the missionaries in your local area will allow you to get a free copy of the Book of Mormon, and they can help answer questions and help you study. Then after reading and studying or observing the fruit, you can pray to God and recieve your answer. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Spencer.
No. We revere and respect him as a Prophet of God. He is commonly discussed in our doctrine because he was the Prophet that restored Christ's Gospel. He was a man who gave his life in service of his fellow men and God, and we love him and revere him for that. However this is the Church of Jesus Christ, of Latter-Day Saints. NOT the Church of Joseph Smith.... Show more Show less
