Hi I'm Jon-Michael

I'm a father, husband, DJ, computer geek, financial advisor and a Mormon.

About Me

I'm in my early 30's and I was raised in the church. I have 5 brothers and 2 sisters of which I am the oldest child. My wife and I have been married for over 10 years, we have 2 boys, ages 6 and 3. My wife stays at home with our children. I work full-time as a Systems Engineer and have my own part-time business in the financial services industry. I have a passion for electronic music and have been a mobile DJ for over 14 years. I am an avid sports fan, I play basketball, run and bike several times a week and love being a father and husband.

Why I am a Mormon

Despite the fact I was raised in this church, there came a point where I had to find out for myself whether this was true. I found out in a couple of ways. The first was living the principles I was taught. I learned for myself that when I live the teachings of Jesus Christ, my life and the lives of those I come in contact with are blessed, especially my family. The second reason was learning how the Spirit of God can manifest truth to myself and tell you if something is right. If you attempt to intellectualize what you believe and depend on that intellectual understanding, you will struggle. I am a Mormon because I know through the Spirit of God that this His church, and I found that out on my own, independent of what anyone told me.

How I live my faith

Currently I serve in my local Ward (congregation) as a Ward Mission Leader. I work with the full-time missionaries in coordinating the efforts of teaching new members and current members the Gospel. From time to time, it is my privilege to conduct a baptismal service where a new member is baptized into our church. My experiences here have shown me again how people's lives, regardless of background, education, ethnicity or income, can be changed for the better. I attend church every Sunday with my wife and two children. It can be hard sometimes to keep two small children quiet during some of our services, but every once in a while, we see the good that comes from them attending when they tell us or show us what they've learned.

Who founded Mormonism and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

Jon-Michael
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints was founded by Joseph Smith, Jr. in 1830. As Mormons, we believe the church was not created, but rather a restoration of the ancient Christian church founded by Jesus Christ in the New Testament. We believe it was under the direction of Jesus Christ that Joseph Smith founded this church. Joseph was struggling to find out which church to join. It was a short time later he prayed and received a visitation from God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Joseph was a young 14 year-old boy when he received this visitation. This began a series of visitations and experiences where I believe the church founded by Christ himself was restored. The thing that stands out to me as I have studied and learned about Joseph is if this man was indeed a fraud, why would he endure so much persecution including the other members of his founded faith eventually ending his own life? In 1838 he stated in his own words, "I had actually seen a light, and in the midst of that light I saw two Personages, and they did in reality speak to me and though I was hated and persecuted for saying that I had seen a vision, yet it was true" I know through the same method Joseph received his answer, by praying and receiving an answer from God. This is the foundation of my faith, and I know others can receive this answer for themselves if they diligently seek it. Show more Show less
