Hi I'm Mark

I'm a Mormon. I have lived in UT for all of my life except for a 2 year church mission in Tennessee.

About Me

I am a father. I got my bachelors degree while going to school here in Utah. I like to spend time with family & friends, write short stories, do family history/genealogy, and play video games (on occasion).

Why I am a Mormon

The gospel of Jesus Christ has helped me to be a better person. It helps my faith and I believe that faith is a choice. This Church has everything that anyone would need for their spirituality. There is so much that appeals to so many all over the earth. It has helped me to believe in God & that He has a Church on the earth today. I believe it is the same church that Jesus Christ had organized when He came to earth.

How I live my faith

I live my faith the best that I can. Being Mormon is a way of life. I do my best to pray & study the scriptures daily. I enjoy doing Family History/Genealogy work. I strive daily to find ways to improve myself as I try to follow Jesus Christ through His example. My job in my congregation is a ward missionary.

What is being a Mormon like?

It is a way of life. It involves more than just going to church, but trying to live a good life by keeping the commandments. It means being involved in a local congregation. It means that you try to be a good example to others. Show more Show less

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Although we have many similarities to other churches and hope to build upon them, some other churches want to call us a cult because of some differences in beliefs. It is usually because they do not understand what we believe and they feel threatened from the growth of the church. Many also do not like that we believe that we are the one true church. We are not a cult. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

We are saved by grace after all we can do. As James said, faith without works is dead. Faith & works go together. We are accountable for our actions, so we believe that we must live our faith daily and do our best to do what is right. Show more Show less

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

Men and women are different. Men and women play different roles in families and relationships. Most women have qualities that most men do not have. Many women are more nurturing than most men, for example. Women play major roles in primary school for children and relief society, which is for women. I feel that women do not need the priesthood. Many men are selfish and prideful. The priesthood helps me to think of and serve others, as well as to be more humble. Show more Show less

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

We believe that Jesus Christ established his church while he was on earth. But after he left, there was an apostasy and gradually the Christians were killed or fell away from the truth. The church was restored to the earth with apostles and prophets, just as there was in the Bible. They lead our church today. They speak to us every 6 months in what we call general conference. The prophet and apostles teach us about things that are relevant to us today, such as living a Christlike life. For work, I am able to listen to music as I work. Recently, I have been listening to the conference messages. I feel that these talks have helped me too much for those teachings to not be true and they have helped me to be a better person. What is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' attitude regarding homosexuality and same sex marriage?

Sexual relations are to be between a husband and wife. Its primary purpose is to have children. The ten commandments are from the old testament, but they are still relevant today. Also in the old testament, God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah for what the people were doing, so I do not believe that we can discount that. But we must love all people and not be mean to them because of their feelings about sexuality. Also, I feel that it is more important to focus more on what I am in favor of instead of what I am against. So I focus more on the importance of traditional marriages and families. Are Mormons Christians?

Yes, we are Christians because we strive to follow Jesus Christ by following His teachings and example. It is more than just a belief. We do our best by trying to live like Him, then through the atonement and His sacrifice, God does the rest as we make mistakes and can repent. Salvation is a process and not a one-time event and we are accountable for our sins, words, and actions. Show more Show less
