Hi I'm Edgar

I'm a computer programmer. I'm a father of 6. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I like to make things. I play with electronics and robotics. I built a treehouse and a 100 foot zipline in my yard. I fix my cars, do home repairs, and work in the yard and garden. I spend my free time with my wife and family playing games, hiking, and enjoying our local community. I currently work from home as a computer programmer but I have worked professionally as a College Instructor, IT Manager, Network Engineer, and Web Developer.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in the church but as I matured to adulthood I took it on myself to choose to be a member of the church. I have found that following the teachings of Jesus is the way to be happy. It is the way for my family to be happy. I have studied different religions and philosophy, and enjoy looking for truth and beauty where ever it can be found. The truth found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints fits together perfectly. I know God I am a son of God. He loves me and has placed me here on earth. I know He sent His son, Jesus Christ, to the earth to show us how to live here on earth and to atone for our sins so we can return to God. I know that God the Father and the Son appeared to Joseph Smith in modern times to restore the ordinances and teachings that were lost. I know the Book of Mormon is true and gives us a clear pattern to follow. I know there is a prophet of God on the earth today who speaks to the world and guides us back to our loving Heavenly Father.

How I live my faith

I work with another adult leader and a 16 year-old young man, to mentor a group of 11 year-old boys in the Boy Scouts of America and in class on Sunday. I teach the boys basic skills that can help them enjoy the outdoors more. They learn to read maps, identify plants, tie knots, cook for themselves, and respect and appreciate the world God has given us. I also give them chances to apply what they learn by going into the outdoors and practicing the things we learn. On Sunday we learn about God and how he loves us. I say we because each week the boys also contribute to preparing and teaching the class. Even at their age they can lead discussions and share the things they are learning about spiritual things. They understand that they are a son of God with a devine purpose.
