Hi I'm Nels

I am a father and husband. I write letters. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a large family, served in the army for a couple of years, was a missionary in France, graduated college, married, and did a couple of years of graduate school in economics. We have lived for most of our married life in the Midwestern region of the US. I like to be with my my wife, my four children and my grandchildren. I enjoy hiking, bluegrass music, historical biographies, movies, and writing letters.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the wonderful feelings of goodness that I feel when I am with other members of the Church. I am a Mormon because the doctrines help me understand my purpose in life. I am a Mormon because of the many opportunities it gives me to be involved in service, in helping others to be happy. I am a Mormon because I love Jesus Christ. I owe everything to Him. I want to be His disciple, and my faith helps me learn of Him in a rich and fulfilling way.

How I live my faith

I try to be fair and kind with everyone I meet. I listen to what people say, I treat them with respect. I try to find common ground. I care for my wife. I try and support her in her efforts to do good. I recognize that she is better at supporting me than I am at supporting her. I try to be gentle with my children. I love being with the members of my church. I love to be of service to them in their times of need. I have worked with young people for many years and currently supervise a large group of missionaries in several cities in Canada. I get a lot of satisfaction from teaching and helping people realize how good their lives can be as they come to Christ.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

The Gospel of Jesus Christ is not just about living a good life, which many people do. It is also about building up the family of God, about helping all of us to be linked to our Heavenly Father in one great family. This is done through ordinances that were lost, that were not clearly described in the Bible, and by the power of the Priesthood of God, which disappeared as the early church fell into apostasy. The restoration returned this priesthood power, revived these linking ordinances, and allowed for the fullness of Christ's gospel to be practiced once again. Because of atonement of Jesus Christ and the restoration of His Gospel we can hope to return to our Heavenly Father, as heirs, and to live with Him and our Brothers and Sisters as a family forever.
