Hi I'm Ben

I'm an Oregonian. I love life, and my wife. I'm all about ice cream. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently a student at Brigham Young University. I am also working at the Missionary Training Center where I teach new missionaries Spanish before they go to wherever they are assigned to work. I am happily married to my beautiful wife. I am studying Manufacturing Engineering Technology and I love it! I love innovating, designing and making new things. I also love to quote movies...for some reason it is a talent that I have and I enjoy guessing movie quotes and quoting them with my wife and my family. Working and going to school can be a little tricky and busy most of the time but I enjoy it because I don't have too much down time, which I think is a good thing most of the time. The down time I do have I get to spend with my wife playing games and watching movies.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Mormon church. I was baptized when I was eight years old. I always loved going to church, seeing my friends, and singing. Then, as I got older, it came time to make some more serious decisions about what I was going to do with my life. So I read the Book of Mormon to find out if it really was translated by a true prophet of God, Joseph Smith. I knew that if it was, then the Church he restored and Gospel taught within it must be the only way to return to my Father in Heaven. When I finished reading I prayed to my Father in Heaven to know if the book, and the Church, were true. I felt a feeling of peace enter my heart and mind. I felt like yelling out loud, "Of course it's true!!" Because of that experience, and many others afterwards, I've tried as hard as I can to live the principles of the Gospel. I know the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is true because my Father in Heaven has told me so through His Holy Spirit. If we pray to him with sincerity he will answer us. I know that this Church is the true Church of Jesus Christ. It is the same exact church that he established when he came to the earth over 2000 years ago. I know it. Anyone who really investigates the Church will find that we have one main goal: To live our lives in the way that God has asked us to in order to receive the blessing of living with Him and our families after this life. I want to live with my wife and future children for eternity. That hope is the center of all I do.

How I live my faith

Right now I am trying to live my faith by being a good husband and improving my relationship with my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I have not been married for very long but I have learned so much about love and charity through it that I feel that I understand God and Jesus Christ's love for us just a little bit more. My wife Kristi is the love of my life. I think the thing I have learned most from marriage is the necessity of putting her needs above my own in every situation. Being selfless has taken on a whole new meaning, and I think that is why I believe I understand Jesus' love for us a little bit more because He was the most selfless person who has, and ever will, live. Everything He did was motivated by love for others, and He asks us to to do the same. One of the reasons I love my wife so much is that she is the most selfless person I have ever met I love teaching. I work with missionaries almost every day, trying to help them learn Spanish and understand the things they will be teaching others. The daily examples of faith and determination that I see in them strengthen my faith and remind me of my own mission and the great lessons I learned and maybe have forgotten over time. Every day I study the scriptures and pray so I can understand the Gospel better and learn how I can become more like the Savior.

What is the First Vision?

The First Vision is one of the most important things that has happened in Church history. We have all seen the many churches that are on the earth today. Joseph Smith was a young boy who wanted to know which of all the churches was the Church of Jesus Christ. Which one was the church that had all of the doctrine that Jesus Christ taught? Which one had true Priesthood authority which allowed Man the opportunity to perform things like baptism with the permission of God? One day he decided to ask someone for an answer to his questions. However instead of asking a preacher, or his family, he decided to ask the only Person who knows all things and who cannot lie; God himself. During his prayer Joseph saw a light and in the midst of the light he saw two Heavenly beings. One of those Beings said to him, while pointing to the Other, "Joseph, This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him." Joseph realized that he now had his chance to find the answer to his question, and so asked Them what he should do. Jesus Christ replied to him that none of the churches that were on the earth at that time were His True Church with correct doctrine, and Priesthood authority. As a result Joseph Smith was called to be a prophet who, eventually, would restore the true Church of Jesus Christ on the earth so that Man would know to whom they should look for Salvation. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the restored Church of Jesus Christ, and Joseph Smith was the instrument of that Restoration. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Missionaries proselyte because that's what Jesus Christ and his Apostles did! We are no different from them. We have the knowledge of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, how can we sit around and not share it with anyone while still calling ourselves Christians? We cannot. Missionaries are called to warn people of the consequences of sin, and to invite them to repent and be baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost so that the Atonement of Jesus Christ can have effect in their lives. This message is for the whole world and there is no way we can get it to the whole world if we do not go everywhere in the world to share it. We cannot help but tell those we love (and Christ teaches us to love everyone) about the love, happiness and peace that can be found in keeping the commandments of God. That is why we proselyte, because it demonstrates charity, the pure love of Christ for all men. Show more Show less
