Hi I'm Thomas

I'm happy, married, going to college, and I'm Mormon.

About Me

I'm going to college. My wife and I live in a small "beginning" apartment but feel blessed with all we have. I love spending time with my family. Hobbies of mine are hiking and running.

Why I am a Mormon

I came to know The Church of Jesus Christ is God's true and living church through sincere prayer and continued study and pondering of the Book of Mormon. As I lived the commandments and studied the Book of Mormon along with the Bible, I've witnessed for myself through the power of the Holy Spirit that the Book of Mormon is the Word of God. And because it was, God did in fact call another Prophet in our day to restore Christ's Church with Apostles and Prophets! There are LIVING Apostles and Prophets on the earth today!!! You can know of this yourself.

How I live my faith

I help the Bishop of our group with the various tasks he performs in helping everyone come closer to Christ.

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

Thomas
The Book of Mormon was written by ancient Prophets like in the Bible. But instead of being in Jerusalem, these prophets lived in the America's. Show more Show less

Is it true that Jesus appeared in North America after his crucifixion and resurrection according to the Book of Mormon?

Thomas
I have prayed about this, more importantly I've read in the Book of Mormon where it talks about this. I know it's true. The Holy Spirit has testified of it to me. But don't just believe my words, find out for yourself. Read it, pray about it. I promise you God will tell you if you truly want to know, even if it means changing your life and joining this church. What are some things that tell to you there is a God?

Thomas
When I help people I feel happy. And when I pray with faith I have that same feeling. When I ask myself if I poses a soul my reaction is immediately yes. I enjoy hiking and backpacking in nature because it gives me those same feelings. I read the Bible and Book of Mormon and can sense that same surrounding. Show more Show less

How can I know Mormonism is true?

Thomas
Because our time is full of confusion, with many churches on every street corner. God prepared a way that all His children could know this is His true church. Wanting us to know from God Himself, not by a pastor, not by me, not by anyone, but finding out directly from God. Knowing doubt and disbelieve would be, God revealed more scripture through a Prophet in our day. The scripture that was revealed is called the Book of Mormon. At the end of it, God asks us to pray to know if this newly revealed scripture is true. God promises that if you ask Him in humble prayer with a true desire, He will tell you in your heart by His Holy Spirit. I have done such. I know my prayer was answered. God does live. His true church of Apostles and Prophets has been brought back to us. Show more Show less

Why do you have 12 Apostles? They were just meant to be around for the time of Jesus Christ, not to be replaced with new apostles.

Thomas
After Jesus Christ's ministry, Apostles continued to be called. Jesus Christ built His church with 12 apostles as the foundation. That's how God leads His church. There hasn't been any for a while because wicked people killed them. I don't believe God changes. That's how He built His church then, why would His church be any different today? Just like in previous times as shown in the bible, just like with Moses and Noah, God called another living Prophet to restore His true church in 1820. There has been Prophets and Apostles ever since guiding God's true church. There is a living Prophet on the earth today. There are 12 living Apostles on the earth today. Truly a miracle that we share with the world. That God lives and loves us, as such has called more Apostles and Prophets to guide us in our day. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Thomas
No. We only worship God. The reason people hear about Joseph Smith is because God called him to be another Prophet, like when God called Moses in Moses' time. Prophets and Apostles lead God's church, but we don't worship them. Just like we don't worship today's living Prophets and Apostles. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Thomas
A testimony is a personal experience in getting to know God. As faith is believing in Jesus Christ, a "testimony" is having experiences that strengthen our relationship with Him. For example, you might have been "lifted up" and "strengthened" by God, through prayer, during a hard time in your life. That is a personal experience that you can share with others, or "testify" about. A person will "testify", witness, or in other words, have their own personal experience in learning the truths of the gospel of Jesus Christ and about His Church. Sharing your "testimony" or experiences with others strengthens their faith, as well as your own. Though your testimony can be strengthened by others examples and others experiences, we believe it's important to know for yourself, directly from God. Prayer is one of the ways to find out truth directly from God. Another is church attendance, where we learn more of God's word and share our experiences. Another is scripture study, which will help guide a person to feel the spirit work in their life. I can testify, through having my own personal experiences with God, that Jesus Christ is my Saviour. He lives. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is the true Church of God. Their are living Prophets and Apostles on the earth today. These statements are true. You can find out for yourself, directly from God, just as I have. Show more Show less

What does Mormonism teach regarding baptism?

Thomas
We believe that baptism is done by those with authority from God. We believe that everyone must be baptized to show God we believe and want to return to Him. And that Children are saved by Christ's Grace, so if they die before they are baptized, they are still saved. Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

Thomas
We have faith in Jesus Christ. He is the only way for eternal happiness in this life, and life with God hereafter. Jesus Christ is the Son of God. He lives! And can save you from any trial or heartache. He has saved me time and time again. Through His grace alone can we be cleansed from sin. We love Him and He loves us. No matter what our circumstance, He loves us the same. He wants us to be truly happy and baptism in His true church and learning His true Gospel is the only way to receive that happiness and increase our Faith in Him. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Thomas
Jesus asked three times, "lovest thou me?" Then after hearing his disciples response added, "then feed my sheep." Just as anyone would share something that would make others extremely happy for the rest of their life, improve their life no matter what situation they may be in, so we share the message of God bringing back Jesus Christ's true church along with truths that will make all people truly happy for the rest of their lives. Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Thomas
Because God commanded it. Then later God commanded that it be done away with. Just like when God commanded Noah to build an ark. He wasn't to build forever, just until he fulfilled his purpose. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

Thomas
We believe God is the Father of our spirits, and as such loves us as a perfect Father would. We encourage the understanding of this parent-child relationship to better understand how much love our Father in Heaven has for us. That He is happy when we do what is right, and is sad when we do what is not right. He desires more than anything for us to return to His presence and to be "truly" happy in this life by following His chosen Prophets and Apostles on the earth today. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Thomas
I served a two year mission in China, Hong Kong. The cost was 400$ a month to the church to support me while I was out there. The service missionaries give is all volunteer, and is a privilege for most missionaries to perform. Show more Show less

What are some of the ways that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints helps those around the world?

Thomas
While I was living in Hong Kong, a tsunami struck the coast of Indonesia. That same day members of our church went to the church building and built thousands of humanitarian aid kits for the people of Indonesia. If you scroll on the tabs at the top of the page there is a section about "Humanitarian Aid" that does a good job showing what the church is does around the word. Show more Show less
