Hi I'm Rick

I grew up in Safford, Arizona. I served a mission in the Gulf States. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all of my life. I was born and raised in Safford, Arizona (a small farming community in Southeastern Arizona) where life was fairly simple. We had three acres where we kept horses, a cow, chickens, pigs, calves and my brother’s pigeons. There were always chores to be done which taught me the importance and love for work. We always went to church on Sunday with scouting and young men activities during the week. My mother taught elementary music along with all of the canning and house keeping with me and four brothers (me being the youngest). My mother taught me how to love, be kind and gentle. My father taught me how to work, to be honest and have integrity. When I was older and started a career in banking I will never forget his counsel, “don’t you even take as much as a postage stamp”. I developed a love for my Savior at a young age. When I was but six I lost my right eye in a gun accident with faith and prayer being a big part of my life; which continued when at nine, my seventeen-year-old brother was killed in an auto accident. My mother shared the story of how she was prepared by the Holy Ghost on that fateful night. There has never been a doubt that we will be together again after this earthly life. Experiences such as serving a church mission, being sealed in the temple, raising a family of our own and losing a stillborn little girl has strengthened my testimony of our Savior Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

Because of the testimony I have developed through attending church meetings, seminary (the four years I was in high school), daily prayer and scripture study. I have no doubt that Jesus is the Christ and Savior of the world. It is by Him and through Him that we can return to live with or Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. I know that Joseph Smith did see God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ and was used as an instrument to restore the Gospel truths that had been lost for so long. It does not matter how difficult these trials on earth may be or how unfair this life may seem at times if we focus on Jesus Christ and pattern our life after Him and his teachings; in the end all things will be fair and worth whatever we had to go through to get there.

How I live my faith

I try to be fair in the dealings with my fellow men and to be a good example to my children and grandchildren. I try to wake up every morning with a positive attitude and be of service to someone that day. I strive to pray and read the scriptures daily. I strive to fulfill my church responsibilities to the best of my ability. Those responsibilities include: Gospel Doctrine Instructor (this is an adult Sunday school class). Each year we study a different section of the standard works which includes: The Old Testament, The New Testament, The Book of Mormon and The Doctrine of Covenants and Pearl of Great Price. This has been very good in helping me get a better understanding and knowledge of the scriptures. I am a Home Teacher, which is a program where we visit families or individuals each month and check on their temporal and spiritual well being.
