Hi I'm Jessica

I grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area. I am a stay at home mom with three young children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I think I have lived a fairly average life. I grew up in California, hiking and taking piano lessons and hanging out with my friends. I came to Utah to attend BYU, and I graduated with a BA in Psychology and a Masters in Public Administration. While at BYU I made two trips to Africa. I did a field study in Ghana, a service trip to Uganda, and a side trip to Tanzania to climb Mt. Kilimanjaro. I played ultimate Frisbee on a collegiate level and met my husband through the team. He is from Chicago, but we settled down here in Utah and now have three kids. Our oldest is four, so we are busy! In the free time that I do have I like to read anything from fiction to nonfiction (mostly historical) and poetry. I feel pretty happy with this life I have been given!

Why I am a Mormon

I made the decision to be Mormon because of the central teachings of the Church. First and foremost is the divinity of Jesus Christ, my Savior and King. Another important teaching I hold dear to my heart is that families are central to Heavenly Father's plan for us and that we can live with our family forever. I have prayed and asked God if this is His church. I have felt the answer in my heart. I know that this is Jesus Christ's church. And that is why I'm a Mormon.

How I live my faith

I serve with the children in our church. Every Sunday all children age 3 to age 11 meet together to learn the doctrines of our church from lessons and songs. I teach the children and assist those who lead the music. I love my role working with these children because they are so happy and you never know what they will say! At home, we teach our children about Jesus Christ and how to be like Him. We regularly pray individually and as a family and we study the scriptures together. Once a week we hold a special family night where we spend time together having fun and teaching our children.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

In the Bible we learn that God made a promise to Abraham that all kindreds of the earth would be blessed through his seed (Acts 3:25). We believe the time has come for that promise to be fulfilled. After Christ was risen, He told His disciples, "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." (Mark 16:15) And so our missionaries go into all the world and teach the Gospel of Jesus Christ, so that all kindreds and every person may be blessed through their message. These missionaries are volunteers who spend 18 to 24 months doing all they can to find and teach people who are interested in learning about Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
