Hi I'm Ryan

I live in a coastal Victorian seaport city. I work with ID verification technology. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

My wife and I are the parents to 5 wonderful kids that we homeschool. I am an active community volunteer and have served as the President of the Chamber of Commerce. My work requires me to travel often and I spend much of my time flying around this beautiful country of ours. When home I enjoy gardening, helping my kids raise rabbits for 4H and try to complete that never ending "Honey Do" list.

Why I am a Mormon

My family has been members of the Mormon Church since the early 1840's. I am a member of this faith not by tradition, but by conversion. When I was 19 years old it was expected that I serve a 2 year mission. I dutifully submitted my papers and started that process. However it became clear that I needed to know if the doctrines and principles of the Church were what I wanted to follow for my entire life or was it simply a family tradition. I concluded if Joseph Smith was a prophet of God and truly saw God the Father and Jesus Christ as he claimed everything that followed and he brought forth must be true. If he were not a prophet then it would be false. Over the course of my life to that point I had read the Book of Mormon many times, I had attended church my entire life and served in a variety of callings but could not say of my own accord, this was the true gospel of Jesus Christ. It was at this point of time that I knelt and prayed as I had done many times to know if Joseph Smith was a prophet of God like Moses and Peter. Absolutely nothing happened. I felt no burning, saw no vision and did not even have a happy warm feeling. Later that night upset and completely discouraged wondering what do I laid awake in bed. I spoke aloud, not in a formal manner but simply directed my question heavenward "Is it true"? At that moment of time my entire life changed. I had this feeling I had never before felt, it started in my feet and swept through my body. It was an energy and fire that could only have come from God. I knew in that instant as surely as the sun would rise Joseph Smith is a Prophet of God, the Book of Mormon is true and I was on the right path. In my mind’s eye I then could see all of the times growing up I had a spiritual experience that testified of these truths, but I had just not put the two together.

How I live my faith

I have been blessed to serve God's children both in and out of the church. I have served as a Bishop, or the leader of a congregation, on two separate occasions. I was able to serve as a missionary in the Philippines for two years and truly see how blessed we are in this country. My service in the Church has provided me the opportunity to work with the youth. I have as a result become very active in Boy Scouts of America and over the last decade have taken different groups all over the country. We have gone literally from Washington DC to California on dozens of activities. The Church has inspired me to reach out. I have over the years been involved with Rotary, Toastmasters, the PTA, 4H, Chamber of Commerce and several other community organizations. This is a gospel of action. Serving those around us and working to affect positive change in our community is not only our privilege but our responsibility.
