Hi I'm Ron

I became an English as a Second Language Teacher 45 years ago. I live in the desert in California and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born and grew up in Texas. I served a mission for the Church and graduated from Brigham Young University. After moving to California and raising a family, I retired from full time work in adult education in 2004, but I try to keep busy giving volunteer service at church and at a local elementary school and also with a small group of volunteer English teachers in Mexico each summer. This past year I've had a paid part time job doing GED test preparation with adults at a local Indian reservation. I also enjoy spending time with my three adult children and a granddaughter who live close to me. I enjoy music a lot with singing, playing guitar, ukulele and saxophone. This also includes some volunteer work as two senior ukulele groups that I belong to sing and play at local events and several facilities for seniors.

Why I am a Mormon

My mother's family were the first members of the LDS Church baptized in a small town in Texas. As I grew up in the Church I became aware of needing to have a testimony of what we believe in church and of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ. As I teenager I remember having a sure belief in some things and these were added to one at a time. 50 years ago I served a mission for the Church in Mexico and have enjoyed many blessings because of this and my continued activity in the Church. I don't claim to be a scholar of the scriptures or have special training in theology, but I do know the church is true - based on my study and activity and the feelings I get from the Holy Ghost. I feel most happy when I know that what I have done complies with the teachings of the Savior.

How I live my faith

A lot of what I do in the community is volunteer work as I have mentioned. I also have some duties at church which include being a stake or area leader planning and helping with church sponsored activities for single members above 50 and over. I also am assigned to be a home teacher to several single sisters. This includes helping them with household needs or activities as well giving them some spiritual support. I also like to help the full time missionaries who are assigned to our ward or local congregation. Every year our stake puts on two nights of free Christmas concerts for the community and I having been singing with them for 12 years and with other local choir singing at Sunday meetings.
