Hi I'm Winni

I like watching children smile, learning languages, playing with words, enjoying nature, etc. I grew up in Oregon, & I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I work as a full-time mother of three (7, 5 & 2) and wife to their father. I love having fun with our family, and doing my best to help them learn and live the things that will help them be happy and helpful forever. I enjoy the works of Lewis,Tolkien, Rowling, Mull, Wilder, Shakespeare, Herbert and others. I like the Lord of the Rings movies and most of the Star Wars films, too; I've just started reading some of the youth-oriented Star Wars books and want to read the series. I like to design documents in new ways to try to help people learn or retrieve information quickly. I like to find new ways to use and re-use common household things to create useful, fun and/or instructive things without being wasteful with what we have. I love languages, especially Portuguese. I want to learn to communicate in Mandarin Chinese someday. I love the written Asian characters, especially Mandarin. I like quotes, etc. that help me understand truths from a new perspective. I love to watch and listen to running water--streams, rivers, etc. I love how light dances in water. I enjoy being in forests and streams, at the beach and other places outside--when it's not too hot, too cold, or too wet! :) I like playing games, watching movies and reading with my young children, and finding/making toys/object lessons to teach them about the Gospel of Jesus Christ, especially.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because when I study the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and try to live them--including through praying to know if they're true--I am a kinder, happier person. This blesses me most right now as I work to be the best companion to my husband and mother to our young children that I can be. I'm far from perfect. But the Savior continues to love and bless me as I try to come to Him through His words. I feel His words as direct answers to my prayers and desires and through words and feelings He gives through prophets. I find the prophets' words in scriptures from the past and through living prophets--leaders of the Church in our times. Every experience of my life reaffirms that God's strength and direction consistently come through these men and through those--in and out of the Church--who do things that the Savior wants us to do.

How I live my faith

Mostly I live my faith trying to treat my family as Christ wants; I need a lot of help with this!! I try to be kind and I tell each child and my husband that I love them. I hug, hold, kiss, pat and tell them "I love you" with three touches, winks, blinks or words. I tell them following Jesus forever is THE way to be happy forever. When I mess up, I try to admit it, really apologize and improve. I share scriptures with them and encourage individual & family prayer. I do all this because what I most want is that they deeply connect with God through prayer & His word: I know with that connection they will always be OK, no matter what. I can't even explain how much I want and know that! I also love God by trying to treat each person as Christ would. Quite often, I'm consciously aware that those around me will likely judge my faith & that of others by my actions. Because I love Jesus and respect each person, including those of all faiths and no professed faith, I try hard to treat each one like the child of God I know she or he is. This is easier for me, sadly, with those outside my family. I work regularly, though, to treat family as He does, too. Every success with this gives me more confidence and surety that I can do it and that doing so will bring us more joy--great, great joy. Church assignments help me keep faith, too. They've ranged from simply worshipping at Sunday meetings to serving for an 18-mo full-time mission to leading the women's group of my congregation (ward) to helping in a program called visiting teaching (vt). Through vt, another woman & I try to care for specific women. We try to visit or otherwise contact each one monthly+. We try to build friendships, share our Gospel witnesses, pray with them & help meet needs. If we can't help, we try to find others who can. I also choose & lead music for our women's Sunday meetings. I love music that helps us feel God's love and truth; it really helps me & others feel valued and feel a desire to help others.
