Hi I'm Dave

I'm a Mormon Research Scientist and a Dad.

About Me

I am happily married to a wonderful lady. We have ten children, the first nine children were boys and the youngest is a girl. I work as a research scientist developing fuel cell materials and processes. I like camping, hiking, swimming, and cycling with my family.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and was taught from my infancy that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was restored by the Prophet Joseph Smith and that the Book of Mormon, the Holy Bible, and the words of the Prophets and Apostles are true. I was also told that if I prayed to know if these things were true, the Lord would answer my prayers and let me know in a personal, unmistakable way that these things were true. I tried to pray several times as a youth, but did not seem to get an answer. When I was seventeen, I decided I really wanted to know for myself if the teachings of this Church were true. I prayed and fasted, but still no answer. I even went up into the mountains early one morning to ponder and pray. As the sun came up, I waited for an answer. The feeling I got was "Line upon line, precept on precept." I was not happy with that answer. At the end of my eighteenth year, I applied to go on a mission and was asked to serve in a developing country in Asia. As I arrived to my first area, I began to teach some very humble families and individuals, often sitting on the floor of their small house, by the light of candles. As I began teaching the principles of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Spirit of the Holy Ghost confirmed the truth of the words I spoke to my own heart as welll as to those whom I was teaching. I thought to myself, "I am teaching myself the Gospel!" As I look back I realize that I had not doubted the teachings I received as a child, but that unmistakeable, personal witness from God came to me as I spoke those words of truth.

How I live my faith

I believe that to become a true disciple of Christ, we need to follow his teachings and try to live by the example He set for us. I try to seek guidence and counsel from Heavenly Father in daily prayer alone, with my sweetheart and with my family. I study the Holy Scriptures and modern writings of the prophets and apostles to learn the commandments that God has given us to keep us safe from the troubles of sin and disobedience. I am one of the leaders in our congregation and cousel with our Bishop, the leader of our congregation, in helping each member of the church to grow in faith. I enjoy visiting the homes of members and others who are interested in learning and discussing the wonderful teachings of the Gospel. I believe that the greatest thing we can do in this life is to love God and love our fellow sisters and brothers by serving them.

How can we come to know our Father in Heaven?

I have sought all my life to come to know our Father in Heaven better. The best way I have learned is to seek him often in prayer, studying and pondering the scriptures and through loving and serving the sons and daughters of God. With this effort, He has revealed Himself unto me in an unmistakeable way.  I know he loves all of His children. Show more Show less
