Hi I'm Shon Brodie

I'm a military analyst and retired Marine. I jumped out of perfectly good airplanes and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the proud Dad for four fantastic kids and the lucky husband of a wonderful wife. I was privileged to serve as an US Marine for 23 years. I retired in 2005 and started a consulting firm. I enjoy sharing time with my whole family. My kids are all athletes so we are very busy. I love the outdoors and hiking with my chocolate lab KaBar.

Why I am a Mormon

When I was a young man I attended many different churches. During a deployment to Beirut, Lebanon, in 1983, I turned off organized religion. It was my view that organized religious factions were the primary igniter for conflict in the region and they offered little value in helping individuals and communities. In 1993 I realized my life was motivated by self-interest and that knowledge left me empty. I was driven and professionally successful but I knew those qualities did not necessarily translate to the traits desired in a husband and a father. There had to be more to live for that just me. Through a series of personal discoveries I came to learn that I needed Jesus Christ in my life. My girlfriend was raised a Catholic, so I attend those services. I was primarily raised a Methodist so I attended those services. My associates were Episcopalian and I attended those services. All of these were very nice. One morning I was driving to work and I heard a radio message from the LDS church. It said something like, ‘The most important things in life are learned from spending time with those we love.’ The statement resonated with me and I was impressed to start asking questions about the Mormons. I came to learn the Church of Jesus Christ was restored in our time. I learned I am a Child of God and He wants me to realize my potential. I learned how happiness is gained by living worthy to receive inspiration from the Holy Ghost. I learned there is a prophet on earth today. I learned the family is central to God’s plan for us to live with Him forever.

How I live my faith

My family is blessed by having the Gospel of Jesus Christ in our lives. We pray together and for each other. We have adopted this family creed- Our family will make choices guided and guarded by our values of Faith, Family, Freedom and Friends. We will pursue focused work and happiness empowering all of our members to achieve their potential. We will Learn We will Love We will Serve We will be Eternal

Why did your church previously practice plural marriage (polygamy)?

Shon Brodie
Plural marriage was practiced by memebers of the church for 45- 50 years, ending in 1890. I believe Heavenly Father commanded the practice of plural marriage in order to provide families with priesthood leadership and to enable the church to withstand the constant threats for survival.
