Hi I'm Geoff

I'm a Mormon

About Me

I'm a father of four wonderful children, married for over 13 years, and love being with my family. I'm a marriage and family therapist who specializes in working with distressed couples. Even though I see tremendous pain and suffering every day, my knowledge of the purpose of eternal families helps me keep a perspective about why we marry, have children, and experience trials.

Why I am a Mormon

Even though my parents raised me in the Mormon church since I was little, I eventually had to decide for myself if this was right for me. In my heart, I know for a fact that the true church of Jesus Christ contains 12 apostles, prophets, and ongoing revelation. I know that Jesus Christ organized his true church on the earth and that this church fell apart after his death through the Apostasy. After years of darkness and confusion, God restored the same organization that Christ himself had set up on the earth through the first latter-day prophet, Joseph Smith. I know that Joseph Smith restored the true church of Jesus Christ in it's perfect form to end centuries of darkness and confusion. I know that the Book of Mormon is another witness of Jesus Christ and supports the Bible in proclaiming that Christ really lived on the earth and is the literal Son of God. These truths have been witnessed to me by the power of the Holy Spirit more times than I can count. This is why I'm a Mormon. I choose to follow Jesus Christ and belong to the church that He himself set up on the earth to lead God's children back home.

How I live my faith

I grew up attending a small Mormon church in Oklahoma. There weren't a lot of members of my faith in my area. As a result, I was called on often to help serve and contribute to my church community. Over the years I have contributed in a variety of ways, from playing piano for our main worship services to leading the worship services as a bishop. Every chance to serve others is a chance to serve God. When I connect to this truth and involve myself in the lives of others, I feel peace and purpose.

Are Mormons Christians?

If being a Christian means following Jesus Christ, then I can't think of a more Christian-minded group of people. Yes, Mormons are Christians. We believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, that he was born of Mary, lived a perfect life, and was crucified on the cross to save us from physical and spiritual death. He is central to everything we do and we believe that he leads and guides our church today through a prophet and 12 apostles (just like His church anciently). Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

I'll speak for myself and my family.... We love to spend time with our children, attend church on Sundays (for three hours), work to keep the Sabbath day holy by not shopping or recreating, try to care for our bodies by eating well and not using addictive substances or practices, and work to help others. I work as a full-time marriage and family therapist in private practice. I vote, I contribute to the community, I volunteer. Life is full of purpose. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe about the nature of God?

We believe that God has a perfected body of flesh and bones, that He is the spirit father of all of those living on the earth, and that He is loving and merciful. Show more Show less
