Hi I'm Colin

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the father of 3 Children, 2 girls and a boy. I have 2 grand-daughters through my oldest child and her husband. I was born in June of 1960 in a small village in West Sussex, I am the middle child of 3 boys. I am the only member of the church in my family. I met, and later married, my wife through a neighbor, who went to the same school as my wife. In 1979 I joined the Sussex Police Force, this turned out not to be the career that suited me, so I left Just under 2 years later. In July of 1980 I married my 1 and only girlfriend, who I had been dating for almost 5 years. My interests and hobbies have always revolved around sport and reading mostly fiction or crime thrillers. I am an avid fan of Terry Pratchett books. My ageing body makes me more of an observer of sport now:0) In the past I was very keen on playing almost any sport, although my most successful sports were Football + Table Tennis. I am at my happiest when I am with my family or helping other people.

Why I am a Mormon

I was the Manager of an Off licence, when I heard the lessons about the restoration of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, my wife and I knew we needed to act on the strong feelings that we had as we prayed and spoke to members of the Church who lived in our local area. We put into practice the invitation to live our lives more fully in line with the teachings of Jesus Christ, we found that we were happier and more fulfilled. We made some changes in our lives, the biggest was to stop making a living from selling alcohol, this was more than simply changing jobs, we lived in tied accommodation, not only did we give up our income, but we would also have nowhere to live. We prayed long and hard to get a confirmation / witness that this was in accordance with the Lord's will. We felt a powerful witness that joining His Church was the right thing to do. We had searched for many years and tried many different Churches, while looking for The True Church, in the same form as Christ established it himself, during his Mission, which led up to the Great atoning sacrifice. This was the one that had all the things that we had read about in the Bible: Prophets, Apostles, Revelation, Temples, 3 distinct beings in the Godhead and baptism as demonstrated by Jesus, amongst others. We started our search after a traumatic experience, some 2 years prior to our baptism, that resulted in our then youngest child, (20 months old), having skin grafts on her feet. During this time we learned the power of prayer and that miracles still happen today.

How I live my faith

I am a former Bishop of my local Congregation, a voluntary position that I served in for almost 8 years between January 2004 and November 2011. I am grateful for the experiences that I have had since joining the Church in 1988, I have met and served with many people, from all walks of life and social standings in our community. I love the opportunities that are presented to me to help people of all ages to recognize, and in some small way, help them achieve their potential. I am currently serving as The Elders Quorum President, (Among my responsibilities, I preside over, sit in council with, and teach quorum members. As Leaders we direct the efforts of quorum members to advance the work of salvation in the ward, we participate in efforts to build faith and strengthen individuals and families and coordinate the ward’s efforts to encourage temple and family history work. We give particular attention to the needs of new members, ensuring that each has someone to call upon to 'Minister' to their various needs. In the future, it is a goal of my wife and I to be in a position to serve as Missionaries, we have been inspired by our son, who had some amazing experiences while serving as a Full-Time Missionary in the Philippines for a period of 2 years 1 month + 10 days, where he helped the members of that beautiful nation share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with their non-member friends and families.

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

Colin
The Church does not endorse any particular Political Party or Candidate. As members we are encouraged to be fully involved in local and national efforts to improve the circumstances of all people. This could be through offering of our time and talents to make people aware of injustice or simply helping people be aware of organisations that can help minister to the needs and wants of others.
