Hi I'm Dean

I grew up on a ranch in Southern Idaho. Attended Utah State University. Taught Young Adults for 35 yrs. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up on a ranch with cattle, sheep, dairy cows, and farm work in the fields. Hard work was part of our life growing up. My Father and Mother taught us the importance of living a good life. Service was always part of their life which was passed on to their family. I have been a Mormon my whole life. Attended college and earned a masters degree in Botany with a minor in Zoology. Married a wonderful woman who has been by my side through the many shared experiences. We were able to have three children and desired to have more in our home so adopted 6 Korean children which added many experiences and happiness to our family. A hobby that I have is cooking with Camp Dutch ovens. I have also taught Dutch oven cooking for many years and enjoy the interaction with those who take the course. After I retired the experience with cancer was a real eye opener to life. My wife and I are now serving people who are in need and enjoy our work. While our 5 sons were growing up I was involved in scouting with them. Through many experiences with scouting I was awarded the silver beaver award which was a great honor.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member all of my life but was always given the freedom to choose the course in life that was my desire. After studying the gospel so that I would know for my self that what I was doing was true there was no turning around because of the many witnesses that came to me of it truthfulness. I read the Old Testament, the New Testament, the Book of Mormon and could see that they testified of each other. The main testimony that came to me was that Jesus was truly the Christ. After that the decisions that I needed to bring happiness in my life was easy. I love the gospel for the direction that it has given me as a father to lead our children back to our Heavenly Father. At the same time allowing them to exercise their agency as to their own lives. I know that the Book of Mormon is a second witness that Jesus is the Christ and that the Bible is the first witness of this same truth. I also know that Joseph Smith was the prophet selected by God to restore his church to the earth again with his authority to preform the saving ordinances that would make it possible for us to return to our Father in Heavens presence. I now this by the whispering s of the spirit, as I studied to know for myself of the truthfulness of the gospel.

How I live my faith

I have had the privilege of being a part of a Ministerial Association for over 20 years prior to retirement. The experiences shared with those of other faiths will be forever etched into my life. One of the Pastors asked me to be his executive secretary for a senior citizen gleaning association. I worked with him for about 12 years in this position. I was also involved in teaching for the Church in California. This experience was one of the high lights of my life. Teaching young adults and helping them through life was fulfilling and will never be forgotten. I have held many positions in the Church which have been a blessing to my family through the years. My wife and I have been on 4 missions for the church where we were involved in many activities with the community. We do love the Lord and appreciate the many blessings that we have received through our years together.

How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Faith can be increased by reading the scriptures (the Old Testament, New Testament, The Book of Mormon and the Doctrine and Covenants) each day. There are living prophets on the earth today which also guide us toward a stronger testimony in Jesus Christ. Living the commandments learned from these sources is the way Faith will grow.
