Hi I'm Norman

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a stamp, coin, and Sport cards collector. I enjoy Scouting and Sports. I played sports in school and in college. I have two children. Presently one on her own and making her way in life and one in college making a place for himself. I work in the computer field of an agriculture based comapny in a small rural town. Here it seems that everyone knows everybody else. I enjoy cooking, yard work, and being with my very best friend, my wife.

Why I am a Mormon

I was once told by a true friend that you can not get into Heaven on someone else's coat tails. I learned from a young age that honesty and service were and are important. I searched for the truth about God in many various places. I attended many different religious groups. I learned that I could not descern for myself which was the only true way. All taught many great things, but all seemed also to reject things that seemed important to me. I was in college when I was asked by a young lady, who was being baptised to come to church with her and my other non-member friends. I not so politely declined. I then went to a few of the youth events and enjoyed them greatly. Soon, my high school buddy asked me to go with him one Sunday. I did. He was not a member either. I soon learned that I had many friends who were members. I even played football with a few... who never mentioned the church to me but were just my team mates and friends. After a few lessons, and hours of reading and praying on the subject of the Church, I received my answer from Heavenly Father of the truthfulness of this religious faith that I had been studying about. Did I plan of joining - no - not at all. But now I knew it was truely my Heavenly Fathers Church. I knew that my Savior Jesus Christ had died for me and paid the price of my sins. How could I turn my back on my Savior? I could not deny the Testimony I had aquired. I dare not deny the Holy Spirit. So I asked to be baptised. I was in baptised in Dec 1977. I have had many opertunities to serve others. I have served a full time mission for my Savior in a country far from home and family. I have learned more about my Savior and Heavenly Father than I ever thought possible. So - Why am I a Mormon? Because it is the only true church of Jesus Christ. Seek for yourself. Knock and it shall be opened, ask and ye shall find. This I know to be true.

How I live my faith

Presently I am the local leader of the church in our area. I work with all of the members and community to help promote family values and love for one another. I work with the scouts, youth, the children, and the adults in the church to teach and encourage them to keep the commandments and follow our savior Jesus Christ. Together we organize trips and events that are fun and uplifting. We have both English and Spanish speaking members in the same church. It is challenging at times but fun also as we learn from one another.

What is a ward/stake/branch?

Norman
They are names given to our local congrations based on their number of members in their area. A branch like ours can range from just a few families up to about 200 or so. Our branch has an attendance on any given Sunday of about 90. A ward is larger of course. They range fro about 150-350 in attendance. A stake is an area in which there are several wards and/or branches. Our stake has 6 wards and 4 branches. Show more Show less
