Hi I'm Duane

I live in Arizona. I'm a small business owner. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Some of the things I really enjoy doing are fishing and being in the outdoors, playing golf and racquetball and most of all doing these things with my family. I'm a father of four children and I have two grandchildren. My wife and I live close to two of our children and the other two live away from home. All are married except for one son.

Why I am a Mormon

My parents were both members of the Mormon faith so when I turned eight years of age I was baptized as well. I can still remember the feelings that I felt as I was baptized and then later confirmed a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Those are feelings that I feel over and over again as I meet with other members of the Church each week and as I share my testimony of Jesus Christ. My testimony has come to me as I have read and studied the scriptures and as I have shared my testimony with others. The Holy Spirit has testified to me many times of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon and of the Prophet Joseph Smith. Both the Book of Mormon and Joseph Smith are witnesses of the life and mission of Jesus Christ. The confidence I have in these things has helped me through the challenging times that have come into my life.

How I live my faith

Each week my wife and I attend church together. We serve as missionaries. It's so fun to associate with the full-time missionaries in our area. We particularly enjoy teaching new members of the church. We help them understand gospel principles that may be new to them. As the message of the Gospel illuminates their lives my life is blessed and enriched as well.

Why are only some Mormons allowed into temples? Is there something secret going on in Mormon Temples? What goes on in Mormon Temples?

Duane
In order to enter the Temple a person must qualify for a temple recommend. A recommend is a small piece of paper that that is signed by my leaders but most of all by me. In order to qualify I must be able to truthfully answer certain questions about how I am living my life. For example, am I faithful to my wife? Am I honest with others? Do I strive to live the teachings of Christ? These are a few of the questions a person must be able to answer in the affirmative. The temple is a sacred place that is referred to as the House of the Lord. In order for the Spirit of the Lord to be present then the people who enter should be living the kind of lives that would allow the presence of the Spirit of the Lord. In the temple we are married for all eternity. Sacred ordinances, such as baptism, are performed for our deceased ansestors. It is a special experience to be able to do something for someone who can't do it for themselves. Show more Show less

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Duane
I have never felt that I worship Joseph Smith. I revere Joseph Smith the same way that I revere a prophet in the old testiment - like Moses or Abraham. Mormons don't pray to Joseph Smith, but we do study the revelations he received as a prophet of the Lord. I pray to our Heavenly Father and I worship both the Father and the son, Jesus Christ, by striving to follow the Savior's example. Show more Show less
