Hi I'm Debbie

I am a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and family historian. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a 55 year old woman. I used to be a stay at home mom but I am now a stay at home daughter, as my mother in law lives with us. I'm not sure why they call it stay at home because it seems like I am running all of the time. I have a son who is married and the father of four boys and a girl and a daughter who has been married for four years. I love to research our family history. I feel such a bond with my ancestors and I admire the diligence and hard work it took them to succeed in this "new land" of Indiana. I have some ancestors that moved to the Marion County, Indiana area just after it became a state.

Why I am a Mormon

My husband and I were high school sweethearts. I was raised a Pentecost and he was a Seventh Day Adventist so we figured out pretty young that we needed to make a decision of where to attend church. I was not active in my church because when I was a teenager I got disullusioned with the constant talk of money. We got married at the age of 18 after we graduated high school. My husband had joined the Navy during the summer and left on a six month deployment eleven days after we were married. I flew to Hawaii where his ship was home ported six months later. Due to some little miracles we rented an apartment where we met some Latter-day Saints. We listened to the missionaries and were baptized November 16, 1974. We have been active in the church from that time forth. I am so grateful for the blessings the gospel of Jesus Christ has brought into my life. Our marriage has been founded on the principles we have learned. I love that we can be together forever if we continue to live up to the covenants we have made with each other and our Father in Heaven.

How I live my faith

I have had many opportunities to serve in the church. Right now I serve in our local Family History Center. I help members and non-members alike help to find their ancestors. I also teach the other staff members more ways to do research and help our patrons. I am an indexer and arbitrator for FamilySearch.org helping create indexes of digital images so people can have free access to records to research. I have another responsibility that I love. I and another woman visit four "sisters" every month. We get to know them. We laugh, we cry and we share a gospel message. I love being able to serve others. My husband and I also serve in our local temple. My life is blessed through service in His kingdom.
