Hi I'm Melissa

I am a single mother, am going to school full time to pursue a career in physical therapy, and I am a Latter-Day Saint.

About Me

I once was a traveler of the wide path and broad gate. I once wandered through the dark mists and found a great and spacious building. I once thought I could live however I pleased and manage to find happiness. Funny thing is, I never really did. I occasionally found myself feeling happy, but these moments were fleeting and not of a long lasting joy. Now and then, I would see a glimpse of the straight and narrow, I would perhaps out of the corner of my eye see the tree of life and the sweet fruit it had to offer. However, I would get distracted as the mist swirled around me once more. About a year and a half ago, I caught another glimpse and I yearned more than anything to travel on that straight and narrow path. I prayed to Heavenly Father to help me find that path, to hold onto and reach for the fruit of eternal life. Two weeks later, two missionaries from The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints knocked on my door. The rest they say, is history. I am currently living and loving the Gospel of Jesus Christ as a dedicated disciple, doing my best to raise my son as a single mother, working hard at my studies, and enjoying the blessings that come from following the straight and narrow path which is the will of Jesus Christ.

Why I am a Mormon

Gosh, there are so many reasons. Number one is that I love Jesus Christ. I'm a Mormon because this is the only church where I felt my relationship with Christ become personal. It was through this marvelous work and wonder that I gained a deeper understanding of charity, faith, and grace. I am a Mormon because being a member of this church means you really are a part of a spiritual family. Nothing compares to how I feel since becoming a member. I have grown in faith, in trusting our Heavenly Father's plan, and what a beautiful plan it is. He answered my prayers by sending the missionaries to my door. That will be a day I treasure forever, the day I began to know the truth. God will be the same forever. He will always speak to us and give us guidance. He can and does guide us personally through the Holy Ghost. But, He can also guide us through His prophet and apostles who are on the Earth here and now to help us in the here and now. I'm a Mormon because in every LDS church the same doctrine is taught consistently, the love is felt sincerely, and the Spirit of the Lord is watching over.

How I live my faith

I pray a lot! Read Alma 32 and you'll understand! I think the greatest way though is by doing my best to be a good example to my son. Family is fundamental to any Saint's faith. As such I am always ready to help my family members whenever they need it. I also live my faith by fulfilling my callings in the church. I am a primary teacher and I also make sure our local missionaries stay well fed! Teaching children, has allowed me to more fully "become as a little child" myself.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Absolutely NOT! He was just an ordinary boy searching for the truth. Because of his desire and his purity of heart, God set him apart to bring about the Restoration of the Gospel. Though he was a man called of God, he was still just a man. It was only by the power and authority of God that he was able to do the many wonderful things he did. Never once have I gotten any other impression than that. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

Of course not! Just recently, the stake I am a part of helped raise money for and put in volunteer time to build a Habitat for Humanity home alongside a local Presbyterian church. It was a wonderful experience! Show more Show less
