Hi I'm Jennifer

I'm a Christian and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints...otherwise known as the Mormon Church.

About Me

My husband and I have two little ones running around the house, one is our son and one is our dog. We all love the water...sailing, snorkeling, swimming...walking along the shore of any lake, stream, river, or ocean.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized and joined the church at age 21. Miles away, in another part of the country, without any knowledge of one another, My husband did the same thing. We both received the Book of Mormon, read it, prayed about it, and received an answer from God that it is true. What being true means to me is that it is from God. I remember thinking, WOW- this is either a big fat lie that someone's REALLY going to be in a trouble for creating OR this is TRUE- and THAT would be AMAZING. I had to find out. What I learned was that I had to put in effort to know whether or not it was true or a lie. There was no in between. I had to read it and pray about it and ask God, the One who had been with me throughout my life...I knew He would not lead me wrong- He's trying to get me to return to Heaven after all. So I read it, thought it through and prayed about it. He answered me. I felt an incredibly strong feeling wash over me that the Book of Mormon- the words I had read, were true and from Him. That it indeed was another testiment of Jesus Christ as written by the ancient inhabitants of this land- the Americas. That witness of the Spirit (the incredible feeling that washed over me telling me it was true) was what made me think upon & realize the AMAZING truth of all things of the Gospel, that Jesus Christ did in fact die for me, that I could be forgiven of my sins and refresh and restart my life as a true Christian- living my life as Christlike as I can. I know I'm not perfect, but that day when I prayed and received an answer to my prayer of the truthfulness of the gospel and all that it includes has changed me and my life for the best it could ever be. I am able to walk each day knowing that life goes on after death, that this life is important and a time to be tested, and knowing that I have the fullness of the everlasting gospel- meaning---all the help I need in this life to do what's necessary to make the best of this life I've been given here and for all eternity.

How I live my faith

I am a visiting teacher. My husband is a home teacher. Through these efforts we meet and get to know the people of our ward/congregation at church. My husband has recently been Cub Scout Master. I thought he was cute in his little uniform. He's never been a scout before. I was a brownie and girl scout though. Before becoming parents we were both involved heavily in the youth program with teens of our Stake (our area/regional youth). We helped plan dances, conferences, all kinds of youth get togethers...it was great fun but now we're on to a new part of our lives and we're excited about it. We also were just released from working at the Temple in Boston, Massachusetts. We will miss that work that we did there too but one day in the future we'll do it again I'm sure! Now we work in our local congregation with other members on a regular basis. It's fun to get to know the members of our ward and I especially love going to a play group with a lot of the members from my church. I think they are great ladies and wonderful examples of good mommy skills. I ask them lots of questions.

Do Mormons practice polygamy?

Jennifer
No, they don't. Some people may erroneously call themselves Mormons and practice any number of things that are not in harmony with the will of the Lord but they are not the Mormons who are true members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. It is unfortunate that this myth exists in the minds of people unfamiliar with our Church and it's members- but I suppose this is one way the adversary works to create misunderstanding so that people might turn away from the gospel of Jesus Christ. Who was Joseph Smith?

Jennifer
He was a young boy, seeking truth, who prayed to God our Heavenly Father. Heavenly Father and His Son Jesus Christ visited Joseph and answered his prayer. Heavenly Father called Joseph to be His prophet on this earth in these latter days....similar to prophets of old...like Moses or Abraham. As one huge part of Joseph's calling as a prophet- Heavenly Father had Joseph translate the Book of Mormon into his present day English. Joseph was obedient and did so. Because of Joseph's willingness to carry out the will of the Lord, we now have another testimony of Jesus Christ from the ancient prophets of our Western continent... in addition to the very well known Bible of the ancient Eastern world. Which of the Savior’s teachings have influenced you in your life?

Jennifer
I would like to say that all of the Savior's teachings influence me on a daily basis. The biggest teaching is that He lived His life for me...for all of us. He lived without thought for Himself. I think about that sometimes and hope that I can live my life more for Him and for others without thought for myself. It is a difficult thing to do. It makes me love and respect the Savior even more.
