Hi I'm Tyler

I'm an anesthesiologist, I bike to work each day, and I have a fabulous wife and three wonderful children. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up near Salt Lake City, Utah. Like many of the people in my hometown, I was raised in a Mormon family and can trace my ancestors back to the Mormon pioneers. My parents created a loving atmosphere for our family that consisted of daily scripture study, family prayer, weekly church attendance, lots of yard work and plenty of time at the lake water skiing. Like many of my peers, I spent two years as a Mormon missionary. However, I did not go to a foreign country or a remote village. I served the Spanish-speaking people in the states of Connecticut and Rhode Island. My missionary experience has provided a foundation for the rest of my life - I learned the value of hard work, discipline, responsibility, service and love - I also learned the Spanish language and became very interested in medical mission work. Much has changed in the years following my mission. Now, rather than riding a bike in a white shirt and tie, I ride a bike to a University Hospital where I am completing a residency in anesthesiology. My time is juggled between the hospital, my sweetheart and spending time with our three vibrant children.

Why I am a Mormon

My faith in Jesus Christ and belief in His gospel as found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints did not occur in an instant, nor did it happen in a life-changing event. Rather, it began in my childhood and continues to grow on a daily basis. It is constantly reinforced as I study and ponder the scriptures and words of the modern prophets and apostles, as I attend my church meetings and as I communicate with my Heavenly Father in prayer. In particular, I have come to know that the teachings found in The Book of Mormon provide greater understanding of Christ's teachings found in the Bible and of the path of happiness. I know this book contains God's teachings - when I study its pages, I am filled with peace and I feel that God is speaking to me. It lets me know that He knows me and is interested in my life. I know that God continues to call men as prophets to communicate His teachings to the world. Like Moses of old, these men teach us God's will and show us how to live His commandments. As a father, I feel blessed to have continual divine instruction to guide my family in this ever-changing world. I love Jesus for His teachings and for what He did for the world through His death and resurrection. I know that He is the Son of God and that He lives in the heavens and watches over us.

How I live my faith

I try to live after the Savior's teachings of love, obedience, service, forgiveness and compassion. I'm no where near perfect, and I often struggle to do and be all that I should. But I do make an effort to do what's right, and thanks to the mercy of Jesus Christ, I am filled with hope each day. My day begins and ends on my knees. I thank my Heavenly Father for each new day and I ask for His guidance and help with my daily responsibilities. I try to spend quality time studying the scriptures each morning before I make the long bike ride into work. I love that my job as a doctor grants me many opportunities to apply Christ's teachings of love and compassion.
