Hi I'm Darren

I'm a registered Civil Engineer from Arizona, I have a beautiful wife and 4 wonderful kids and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

As mentioned above my profession is Civil Engineering. Does that mean I have taped glasses and a pocket protector, well not exactly. Although I love math and working on problems the most pleasure I find in life is the service I give back to the community. For the past 10 years I've served in one capacity or another in the Boy Scouts of America. My recent 5 year position as scoutmaster has really given me an opportunity to reach out to the young men in my program and hopefully help them find direction in life. In addition to work and Scouts, I also volunteer frequently as a coach for the local youth sports program. Mostly because it because my son is on all my teams and it give me a good excuse to drop other things to be there with him. However, it also brings me a good deal of satisifaction to see the talents of these youth grow. As I have recently returned to school to study for a MBA my volunteer activities have been somewhat curtailed but the desire is still there and I expect that this degree will provide me more opportunities to give back.

Why I am a Mormon

That is a good question. As a young man growing up in the church it was hard to understand why we did things like going to church for 3 hours on sunday and why we didn't do other things like going to the mall or other fun activities on sundays. However the spirit is a wonderful thing and as I grew, matured, and learned how the spirit testifies I came to a realization that the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints was wonderful, powerful, and faith promoting. Teachings such as families that can be together forever, the priesthood being the power to lead the church but only in the form of service, and Jesus Christ being the center of our religion and his atoning sacrific being the apex of our Heavenly Father's Plan of Salvation for his children are only a sampling of the wonderful nuggets of faith that are taught in our faith.

How I live my faith

As I have previously mentioned, I work in the capacity of Scoutmaster. This is a calling I recieved from the Bishop of the ward. Along with teaching the young men in our ward how to tie knots and light fires I also serve as a spiritual leader that teaches them about the ever tightening knots satan desires to ensnare us with as well as the light of Christ that burns within his true followers. It is a tremendous blessing to help these young men realize their true potential as citizens in this great country as well as their true potential as sons of our Heavenly Father.
