Hi I'm Matt.

I'm a college student. I love the youth. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I recently returned from a mission to South Dakota. I loved serving the Lord full-time in that capacity and love how those experiences are shaping my life. I work part-time as an airline employee, the perfect job for an airplane geek like me! The magic of such a large machine actually taking flight never ceases to amaze me. I am in my second year of college. I am studying Political Science at a junior college and am preparing to transfer to a four-year college. I actually love to learn and everything from auto mechanics to crocheting to calculus interests me. Nothing interests me more than the gospel though! I love being around positive people. I know that nothing is impossible. I realize that I while I cannot make others change, I can be an example for good in world desperately in need of hope and love. My family means the world to me, and I love that as I get older, that love only deepens. I look forward to seeing the world, both literally and figuratively. I've already started to explore the good and wonderful blessing the Lord has to offer and I rejoice to know that has so much in store for me.

Why I am a Mormon

I was blessed to be raised in a loving LDS family. My parents taught me the doctrines of the gospel, a strong work ethic, and a desire to learn. I thank my heavenly father for these priceless gifts. While I was raised LDS, I still had to decide for myself that the gospel was true. I never strayed in my Sacrament attendance or in a rejection of my testimony, but through my study of the gospel, living its teachings, and fervent personal prayer, I came to know that that God is, not was; that he speaks, not spake. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God, and that through him, He blessed us with additional scripture. He continues to do so today through a living prophet in Thomas S. Monson. I love my Savior and His sacrifice for me.

How I live my faith

One of the greatest joys I have discovered is working with the youth. During my summers, I am a counselor at a youth camp. I love seeing the youth learn and grow. Their strength and courage lift me to improve my life and reach for goals I didn't think were possible. By working so closely with them, I hope that they can see their true potential, realize their great importance in this world, and build a better society for everyone.

Why do some call Mormonism a cult?

Matt.
I think that a lot of people, myself included, are naturally afraid of what we don't know. I think that because of this, many view the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints as a cult and members of the Church as members of a cult. This couldn't be further from the truth. While we acknowledge that we have beliefs that differ from mainstream Christianity, many of our beliefs, such as our belief in Christ as the Savior of the World and our belief in the Bible, are commonly held within Christianity. Anyone who visits our worship services can see our devotion to Christ and that we simply strive to be like Him. Show more Show less
