Hi I'm Dinis

I'm a mormon and I live in Lisbon. I'm excited that a temple is going to be built in my hometown.

About Me

I am married and I have three kids. I love being a father. I work as a consultant in Information Systems. I have a calling in the church related to public affairs and it is something that I love to do - to be a representative of the church to other people. In the next four years I am going to be more involved with the youth of the church and this is very exciting, because I love to be associated with them and learn from them.

Why I am a Mormon

I remember that when I was a kid I was terribly afraid of death. I could not accept that this life would end in such an abrupt way, and that my eyes would be closed forever. Many times I thought "is there something I can do to avoid this?" I wondered if there was a magic formula to overcome death and become alive again. One day, my father told us that he had met two foreign missionaries on the street, and that they were going to come to our home to teach us about Jesus Christ. When the missionaries came I was curious about the things they were going to teach us! They started with a song and a prayer and then proceeded with the story of Joseph Smith and the First Vision. I immediately felt that it was true and a feeling of peace and tranquility came over me. I was very excited when they said they were going to come back, another night, to teach us about the plan of happiness that Our Heavenly Father has for all of us. They came back and explained where we were before this life on earth, why we are here and where we go after this life. They explained that through the atonement of Jesus Christ everybody would resurrect and live again, and said that death was not the end of our existence. Those words were very meaningful for me, so I asked if they could explain once agian thaat doctrine - so I could really understand it! They did and even bore their own testimony of those truths! I could not believe it, it was such a overwhelming feeling to be freed from death. I remember that for the first time in many nights I went to bed with a rested heart and the assurance that the purpose of this life finally made sense to me - that dead was not the end of everything. A few weeks later I accepted to be baptized and my whole life changed forever.

How I live my faith

I live a happy life, with my wife and my children. The gospel of Jesus Christ is a lighthouse in my life, it gives me direction and purpose, which is to live one day with my Heavenly Father, along with my family, for eternity. Whenever I feel it's appropriate and the occasion arises, I am not afraid to let other people know that I am a member of the Church and that there's a purpose in life. As a father it is great to know that with the gospel of Jesus Christ my family will be protected against evil things that abound nowadays. It is very comforting to know that these truths and principles will make us be better people, in our families and communities.
