Hi I'm Rich

I grew up in rural Nevada. I enjoy singing barbershop music. I love physics and people. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a dad of four great kids. I enjoy spending time with my family, singing barbershop music, playing with my dogs and solving puzzles. I am fascinated by people and the story that everyone has about their life. I enjoy working in science and I am fortunate to have an intersting scientific job.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I have been touched in my heart to know that this church is true. Anyone born in the church knows that they must become truly converted somewhere along the way. My conversion has been slow and steady with some highlights along the way. One of the highlights was during a seminary class I attended in High School in which we viewed the "Lamb of God". I can remember to this day how powerful it was to see what the Savior went through. I felt a personal connection to Jesus that day and everytime I think about that experience my heart swells with gratitude. Another highlight occurred while I was serving a mission for the Church in Brazil. One morning some other missionaries and I were studying in detail about the atonement of Christ and I had very strong feelings that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ knew me and loved me. I had always been taught this truth, but on this day I had a personal experience with Them that has brought me though some very difficult times. I continue to strive to live the Gospel because I know it is the right thing to do. I feel peace and joy when I live as I should and follow God's Commandments. I have learned that peace can only come through seeking Heavenly Father's will and striving to do it. I love my family and have a conviction that I can be with them forever through keeping the promises I made to God in the Temple. I know there is power in the Book of Mormon and that it has the power to change lives. It changed my life and continues to bless my family as we study it. It is true. It is from God.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to treat other people with respect and kindness. In my line of work I have the chance to meet with all different sorts of people. The way I live my faith is by trying to life each one I meet by help ing to put a smile on their face. I also go to church each Sunday and get to teach a class full of teenagers. This thought terrifies my wife! She loves teaching the 3-year-olds, which terrifies me! Whenever someone in church needs help moving to a new house, doing car work, sholving snow, raking leaves or whatever the task might be, I jump to help. I love to serve and show people by my work that I care about them.

How can faith in Jesus Christ influence us in our marriages and family relationships? in our friendships?

Rich
Showing faith in Jesus Christ requires that we do the works that he does and by soi doing we become like him. As we strive to become more like Jesus Christ we naturally treat everyone around us, especially our spouse, with love, kindness, gentleness, meekness, humility and respect. We become peace makers and seek for ways to serve others. We find joy in placing others needs ahead of our own. How can we not have happy families if we seek the attributes of Christ? Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Rich
No. Joseph Smith was a man just like any other. What makes him special is that before he was born he was called as a prophet to restore the Gospel of Jesus Christ in the last days, in preparation for the Second Coming of Christ. Prophets are known to God and ordained before they are born as we can see from Jeremiah's writing in the Old Testament (Jeremiah 1:5). Many people study the life of Joseph Smith and love him for what he has done, although none who love Joseph worship him. Those who love the prophet Joseph would only worship God the Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. LDS scholar Truman G. Madsen said that he studied the life of Joseph Smith because his life seemed as a window into the life of the Savior, Jesus Christ. From my personal study of the life and work of Joseph Smith I have grown to love him. I have a clearer understanding of Jesus Christ because Joseph Smith was a true disciple of Christ. I know he is a prophet. Although we revere Joseph Smith as a great prophet, we will never worship him. We only worship Almighty God and His Son, Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
