Hi I'm Travis

I currently live in Arizona but Toronto, Canada is home; I love family, friends, playing guitar and movies. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I was born in New Jersey and lived for most of my adolescence in and around central New Jersey. As I grew older we began moving, I have lived in such contrasting places as Florida and the Yukon Territory. I am currently living in Arizona but Canada is my home. My father joined the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon) church when he was in his mid twenties, so I had the great blessing of being born and raised in the church. My mother is not a member of any church. I am an only child; sometimes lonely but I learned to make friends with almost anyone I meet.

Why I am a Mormon

As stated above, the church has been a part of my life since I was born. I am very grateful to my father for instilling in me the faith and values he came to know were true, it was a good foundation. A testimony is not something that someone can give us, my father carried me as far as he could but I had to gain faith for myself. I had to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it to know if this really was Jesus Christ's church restored to the earth. The positive impact that brought into my life, strengthening my faith in Christ, and the spirit I felt as I read the Book of Mormon all confirmed to me that the Church is true. Another big element of my testimony came as I served a mission, it was a true test of faith but it has changed my life a hundred fold for the better. Being a part of Christ's church and doing my best to live according to his teachings and commandments has brought me so much happiness that I can scarcely imagine any other way of life.

How I live my faith

Serving a full time two year mission for the Lord was the single most difficult experience I have ever had but it was also the most rewarding. My mission was a time when I was able to see the Lord strengthen me everyday and the miracles that came into my life and the lives of others from sharing his gospel. I see the gospel of Jesus Christ as something that has made me who I am and without it I would be nothing, it has brought me more happiness then I can even express so it would be very selfish of me to not try and share this with as many people as I can. You face a lot of rejection and discouragement on a mission but focusing on why you are doing what you are puts everything in perspective. The most important way I live my faith is actually just by setting standards for myself, I decided a long time ago that I would follow Jesus Christ and do what my Heavenly Father wanted me too. So when it comes to making a decision I try to always do what God wants and what He has commanded. Sometimes I fall short, we all do, but that is why Jesus Christ lived, died and was resurrected; for our mistakes.

Who was Joseph Smith?

Travis
I frequently compare Joseph Smith to the prophets of old; in terms of what his duty was. Joseph Smith, like Moses or Noah was called and chosen by God to restore Jesus Christ's church to the earth. To give evidence to the young prophet's claims our Heavenly Father revealed to Joseph Smith an ancient record of scripture which had remained undiscovered for many hundreds of years. It is through reading the Book of Mormon that we can find out for ourselves if Joseph Smith was a prophet and if The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is Christ's church on the earth. What blessings can you receive from reading the Book of Mormon, the Bible, and other scriptures?

Travis
We study the scriptures to grow closer to and get increased faith in our Father in Heaven and His son Jesus Christ. We can gain a lot of insight into how God speaks to his children and find parallels in the scriptures to our own lives and how we can improve. When we read the Bible or the Book of Mormon we invite the Holy Ghost, he will tell us that the things we are reading are true and how we can improve our lives. Applying the scriptures is as important as reading Show more Show less
