Hi I'm R. Gessel

I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am married and have five children. I am an attorney. I love to read, listen to great music, scuba dive, cycle, run, swim and ski. At age 53 I ran my very first marathon and hope to do that again.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised in the Church by parents who loved God and taught me to love him. More importantly, over the years, I have come to understand that the relationships that I have with my God, my family and those around me are the most important things to me. At the age of nineteen, I was privileged to serve as a missionary in the Oakland California area for two years, full-time. Before I went on my mission, I took the time to read The Book of Mormon and pray about it. The Book of Mormon not only strengthened my testimony of Jesus Christ and his divine mission on the earth, but it helped to me to understand how important it is to follow him and the example that he set for us. I have learned that as I strengthen my relationship with the Savior that my happiness increases. I don't know of anyone who finds being a parent easy. For me, raising children is extremely challenging. However, I am grateful for the counsel of the Prophets and Apostles. My wife and have often referred to their counsel and advice in teaching our children. We are both grateful for inspired counsel that gives us the guidance that we need in parenting our children. While it is hard, I can truly say that I love being a Dad!

How I live my faith

I am an active member of the Kent, Washington Rotary Club. I also work on the scout committee for the Boy Scout units which are sponsored by our church. I have five families in our local congregation that I have been assigned to visit at least monthly and provide any assistance they might need and provide them with a spiritual message.

What will the Mormon missionaries talk about when they visit my home?

R. Gessel
They will talk about our purpose in this life, where we came from and what will happen to us after this life. Show more Show less

Do Mormons only help Mormons?

R. Gessel
No. Several years ago there was severe flooding miles away from our area. Members of our the church in our area drove down to the flooded area and helped homeowners clean up after the devastating flood. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

R. Gessel
Yes. The official name of the Church is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Our meetings center on how important it is to follow his example and to become like him and how he atoned for our sins. We worship and pray in the name of Jesus Christ. All that we study is about him and about our relationship with him. Show more Show less
