Hi I'm Jennifer

I am a hedge fund manager. I love good dark chocolate. I love learning new things. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I love running and Pilates for activity. I also enjoy hiking and snowshoeing. I like learning, traveling, and meeting new people. I am a small business owner and work in investment finance.

Why I am a Mormon

While some might think I'm a Mormon because I was born to and raised by Mormon parents, I have chosen the LDS faith myself. I have spent and continue to devote a considerable amount of time studying Mormonism as well as other religions. Because of this I have deep respect for many of the teachings and followers of other faiths. I am grateful for the devoted service and the moral example both by people of faith and by those who are agnostic or atheist. Notwithstanding this appreciation and respect for others' beliefs and practices, I sincerely believe that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (the "Mormon Church") is God's kingdom upon the earth. The Mormon church is like none other on the earth today as it contains the organization, powers, and offices that have existed at various times ever since Adam and Eve when God was able to call prophets to deliver His commandments and promised blessings to His people. I believe that God once again directs prophets and apostles in the Mormon church, as He did in ancient times, to know of His purposes or plan for us. This plan of God helps us to help us to live righteous lives and to accept the rituals and promises with God, such as baptism by immersion, that allow us to have eternal happiness in the life hereafter.

How I live my faith

There are three parts to how I live my faith. They are (1) personal worship, (2) family worship, and (3) church worship. PERSONAL WORSHIP I pray morning and night and before I eat my meals. During the time I partake of the sacrament of the Lord's supper weekly I get to spend a few minutes pondering about how I have been living with respect to the teachings of Jesus Christ. It helps me to think of what I can do better and what I have done well. It also is a time for more prayer and feelings of gratitude for the sacrifice of the Lord. I also read the holy scriptures in order to study the gospel. I read the Bible and The Book of Mormon as well as the teachings of modern prophets. FAMILY WORSHIP I spend time each morning and night praying with my husband and we read scriptures together before we go to sleep. We also have a night each week when we spend time together. We think that spending time on strengthening our marriage is part of our worship of God since we believe that our marriage is part of God's plan for our happiness now and in eternity. CHURCH WORSHIP I attend Sunday worship services for three hours each week. I have learned Spanish so I have been working in a Spanish speaking congregation. I spend the first hour with a group of young women ages 12-18. With a few other adult leaders we take turns teaching lessons about the gospel of Jesus Christ and how we can better live our lives in accordance with His teachings. During the second hour I attend a Sunday School-type class for adults focused on scripture study. During the third hour the entire congregation meets for the sacrament of the Lord's supper and to listen to various members of the congregation and church leaders speak. We usually sing about 3-4 hymns of worship as part of this meeting. I also worship about once a week in LDS temples which are buildings dedicated to the purpose of our most sacred sacraments such as our marriage for eternity.

What is the Book of Mormon?

Jennifer
The Book of Mormon is the writings of ancient prophets who lived in the Americas but who also knew of and taught their people how to worship Jesus Christ as their Savior and God. Many of the discourses are comparable to parts of both the New and Old Testaments of the Bible, but which also answer questions and provide further insight about many important Christian topics such as the atonement of Jesus Christ, the interplay between faith and works, the nature of God, the fall of Adam and Eve, life after death, etc. On a personal note, The Book of Mormon increases my faith that life does not end with death and that God's plan for our happiness includes the resurrection of myself and all mankind (resurrection being the permanent reunion of my spirit with my then perfected body). This means that my actions and relationships today are of eternal consequence, and that righteous living now will make it possible for me one day to be able to be with my loved ones forever. Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven't we always had the Bible?

Jennifer
The "restoration of the Gospel" (or the bringing back of all the truths and powers of God again) was necessary in order to once again have both (1) God's power (priesthood), and (2) God's truth. GOD'S POWER: After the death of the apostles of Christ such as Peter, James, Judas, etc., God's power for ordinances like baptism, the Lord's supper, or to bestow the gift of the Holy Ghost (baptism of fire) was lost to the world. Such power would not be here with us on earth if it were not for angels bringing the power back again. GOD'S TRUTH: Though I am very grateful for the Bible, there hasn't always been a Bible. In fact, all people who lived during Biblical times did not have a Bible. Even during the time of Jesus Christ there was not an "Old Testament" as we would know it. All of the characters in the Bible lived and interacted with God's prophets such as Adam, Moses, Isaiah, Jeremiah, John the Baptist, etc. Since written scripture always requires interpretation, God's children have always needed HIs servants and personal revelation to understand what is really true. In our day again, we need all of God's truth and power revealed anew, uncontaminated by centuries of politics and perversions. That is why we have needed the gospel brought back again.
