Hi I'm Jimmy

I grew up in Southern California. I enjoy spending time outdoors. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I enjoy spending time with people and talking about life in general. Business has always intrigued me, especially right now as it seems the world is in constant turmoil financially. I enjoy running and biking as often as time allows. As much as I enjoy spending time outdoors, I enjoy talking and rejoicing in the knowledge that Jesus Christ is the Son of God and atoned for me. I pray that we all understand how amazing the Savior is to us individually.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints because I know that it is the true church of Christ on this earth. I know that Jesus Christ is my Lord and my Redeemer. I know that through Him, we can return to live with our loving Father in Heaven. I know that Joseph Smith was a prophet of God called to restore the Lords church on the earth. I know that he was commanded to translate the Book of Mormon and I know that the Book of Mormon is true. It works hand in hand with the Bible to bring us closer to Jesus Christ. I know that we have a prophet today. His name is President Thomas S. Monson.

How I live my faith

I am not perfect but I try to make the world a little better than I found it. I try to set an example of goodness and love. The easiest way that I live my faith it to smile everywhere I go.

What are Mormon Temples used for?

Temples are built to allow ordinances and covenants to be performed that bring us closer to our Savior. Everything in the church from church meetings to activities help us to prepare to worthily enter the house of the Lord, or the temple. Because the temple is so sacred to us, those who enter the temple have to prepare and be worthy to enter. Covenants are made that help us to more fully understand the atonement of Jesus Christ and ordinances are performed that enable Heavenly Fathers children to return to live with Him again in heaven. The most amazing part of the temple to me is the chance for families to be sealed together for time and all eternity. This means that after we die, families can be together forever as they walk in obedience to the commandments of God. What an amazing and wonderful blessing given to us. Temples are the most amazing and beautiful places that I have personally been able to go into. The spirit of the Lord is strong in His temples and the joy that comes to my heart when I have time to spend there is indescribable. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

The Bible is the word of God. We believe in the Bible as far as it is translated correctly. We use the King James Version of the Bible. The Bible works hand in hand with the Book of Mormon to help us to draw closer to our Savior and to teach us about the atonement of Christ. The Bible contains the words of the Lords prophets on this earth. The prophets: Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Moses, Noah, Daniel and others were men of God who followed His commandments. They were called to lead the people of their time and to command them to repent and draw closer to the Savior. These are not simply nice stories to read but rather these lives are contained within holy writ to help us know that God is the same yesterday, today and forever. I know that the Bible is the word of God. I love to read through the Old Testament and the New Testament as often as I can. I love to feel of the spirit of these great men of God who testified of Christ and prophesied of our times. Show more Show less

Who was Joseph Smith?

Joseph Smith saw in vision our Heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus Christ. Through that experience and other experiences he was called to be a prophet of God and to restore the Lords church on the earth again. Joseph Smith was the first prophet of this dispensation. Joseph Smith organized the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints as commanded by the Savior. We as members of the Church are very thankful for the revelations that Joseph Smith received and for his leadership in the church. As wonderful of a man as he was, we only worship our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ but give thanks for His humble servants such as the prophet Joseph Smith. Show more Show less

Can you tell me about Mormon customs: how you dress for church, what holidays you celebrate, etc.?

Ever since I was a young boy, I was taught to dress my best for church on Sunday. My mother always made sure that I had a clean pressed white shirt to wear with my suit and tie. As I grew older I began to press my own white shirts and continue this process every Sunday. I dress my best because at church we go to partake of the Lords sacrament. Through this sacred opportunity we can renew the covenants we make with the Lord. As I partake of the sacrament, I enjoy feeling that I have dressed properly for that sacred ordinance. What is the purpose of the welfare services of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints?

The church has a perfect way of helping those who have fallen on hard times whether circumstantial or in due course of economy or other reasons. The church does not believe in a simple hand out but follows the teachings of the Savior to teach a man to fish rather than provide just a fish. The welfare service is to help those individuals or families until they can get back on their feet and provide for their own basic needs. It is in no way a free ride but rather a very perfect way for the Lord to take care of His people. Show more Show less

Why do Mormons baptize their new members?

The mode of baptism was taught by the only perfect man to ever walk the face of the earth, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He showed us the way by having John the Baptist baptize Him to fulfill all righteousness. If our Savior who lived a perfect life had need to be baptized by water, how much more need have we being imperfect to be baptized? The first principles and ordinances of the gospel are 1. Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ 2. Repentance 3. Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins. All members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are baptized so that they can become clean from the sins of the world and to show obedience to the commandments of God. Baptism is also in similitude of the death, burial and resurrection of our Savior, Jesus Christ. As we go down into the waters of baptism we are getting rid of the sins of the world and coming forth clean with a new start. It should also be noted that baptism is done by one holding the proper priesthood authority. That authority rests with the priesthood holders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Baptism must be done by one holding the priesthood of God. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

We believe that we are saved by the grace of our Savior, Jesus Christ after all that we can do. We believe that faith and works are combined to prove the life we lead as Christians. In the end, without the grace of an understanding Savior, we could not make it. Each of us is imperfect and because of that we cannot make it back to the presence of our Father in Heaven without the saving grace of our Lord. Show more Show less

In whom should we have faith?

First and foremost we should have faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He is our Redeemer and atoned for our sins. As we have faith in our Savior, we can exercise faith in other areas of our life. Show more Show less

Why don’t Mormons drink coffee, tea, or alcohol? What is the Mormon Church’s law of health and proper diet?

In the Doctrine and Covenants Section 89 it sets forth the Word of Wisdom for members of the Church of Jesus Christ. We do not drink these things because they are harmful to our bodies and because we were commanded not to by the Lord through His prophet, Joseph Smith. We believe that things should be eaten and done in moderation and that certain things should be abstained from. When we follow this code of health or Word of Wisdom, we are promised great blessings as written in D&C89:18-21 which reads: 18And all saints who remember to keep and do these sayings, walking in obedience to the commandments, shall receive health in their navel and marrow to their bones; 19And shall find wisdom and great treasures of knowledge, even hidden treasures; 20And shall run and not be weary, and shall walk and not faint. 21And I, the Lord, give unto them a promise, that the destroying angel shall pass by them, as the children of Israel, and not slay them. Amen. With these amazing promised blessings given to us by simply living a law of health given to a prophet, it only makes sense to abide by the commandments given. Show more Show less

What is the Mormon lifestyle like? How do Mormons live?

Mormons have a lot of fun and laugh a lot. Our lifestyle is exactly that of the rest of the world except that we have certain standards of living that we abide by. First we have a code of health which we follow that has us not consume alcoholic beverages, smoke cigarettes, drink coffee or participate in illegal drugs or anything else of that sort. We also believe that sex is to be reserved for a couple married and not to be shared outside of that marriage bond. With this in mind, we enjoy spending time with friends, surfing, hiking, rock climbing, going to movies and dancing but keep the other influences out of our lives. We are normal every day people who uphold the standards that the Lord has set for us. Show more Show less

Why is self-reliance important to Mormons? Why do Mormons talk about emergency preparedness?

In life you never know what is going to happen financially, natural disaster wise or in terms of war. The importance of emergency preparedness is that no matter what happens, as long as we are prepared, we can handle what comes. Being prepared is essential to help ease the stress of life. Knowing that if you lose your job yet have enough money saved to handle necessary bills and food in storage to feed your family takes the immediate burden off so that you can find necessary employment to provide for the needs of your family. If a fire or flood come and you have food and water stored, your family can safely survive that disaster and others that may come. Self reliance is necessary because the Lord needs an industrious people. We are to work diligently to support ourselves and our families. We cannot rely on handouts but rather must make our way through this life through our own labors. As Adam was commanded in the beginning, to eat his bread through the sweat of his brow. What is the priesthood?

Simply, the priesthood is the authority given to man to act in the name of God. The prophets of the old testament acted under the authority of the priesthood of God. All things were done through the priesthood from blessings to healings. The priesthood today rests with members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. From the age of 12 young men are given the authority of the priesthood and as we get older, more responsibilities are given to us. One thing about the priesthood that I love is that we can never bless ourselves with it but can only bless others. It is not a power that makes us better but rather a sacred responsibility to bless and give to those around us in need. I love the priesthood and as I work diligently to honor it, I can see the blessings in my life as I bless others around me. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe is the purpose of life?

The purpose of life is to live worthy to return back to the presence of our Father in Heaven when our time on earth is finished. This life is the time for man to prepare to meet God and to perform our labors. We need to live in the world and be examples of Christ by helping our neighbor and to live a life of example. The Lord wants for us to love one another as He loves us and to help others to come unto Christ. As we strive to come unto Christ, we are more kind, loving and helpful towards others. Our purpose is to live such a life as we are worthy to return to the presence of God and to be united as a family forever in heaven. Show more Show less

Why don’t women hold the priesthood in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints? How do Mormon women lead in the Church?

The priesthood of God is held by the men of the church. Women work diligently in the church and are seen as equals in every way. As holders of the priesthood, we are not able to bless our own lives with it but rather give to others as we exercise and magnify our priesthood. For example in the time of our Savior, Jesus Christ as He went about performing miracle and giving blessings to others, do you notice the He never gives Himself a blessing? He is always working to heal the sick and afflicted and to bless others with health. He lived a life of service and of giving. In the same way today, holders of the priesthood give to others in the form of blessings and performing sacred ordinances such as blessing and passing the sacrament on Sundays. Women lead in the church in the responsibilities of the Relief Society which is the worlds largest organization for women. Women also lead in the responsibilities of young women and primary children ages 12 and under. Women play a large role in the leadership of the church. Show more Show less

Why are Mormons asked to donate 10% of their income to their Church?

To give 10 of our income back to the Lord who gives us everything in the form of tithing is a very small thing. Every since I was a boy, my mother taught me the importance of giving the Lord 10. She explained it simply that the Lord gives us everything that we have and only asks for 10 in return. It is simple when you look at it in those terms. Every amount of success and every blessing we return is a favor from the Lord and it only makes sense that when He asks for 10 to continue building His kingdom on the earth that we do so. It isn't a sacrifice but rather a blessing because as we are obedient, we continue to be blessed. As I pay my tithing, I always have enough to get my bills paid and to take care of my personal financial needs. Show more Show less

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

When we receive the call to serve as full time missionaries to represent our Savior, we pay for the mission ourselves. I saved up money to serve my mission and my family helped out if it was necessary. One of the amazing aspects of missionary service is that we don't get paid to do it and as we are out as missionaries, we do not work a job but give ourselves completely to teaching others about Christ. As missionaries, we are called to serve for two years men and eighteen months women. It is a blessing to be called as a missionary. If you cannot afford to serve a mission but know that the Lord needs you, members of your individual ward can contribute money to help you to be able to go and serve. Show more Show less

Who wrote the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon was written by prophets from the years 600 BC to 427 AD. The first book in the Book of Mormon is named Nephi after a prophet who was commanded to leave Jerusalem under the counsel of his father Lehi and the Lord. Nephi wrote his account of gold plates and handed them down from prophet to prophet until the last prophet named Moroni had them. Moroni's father Mormon was also a prophet and acted as a prophet historian and compiled all the plates from the 1,000 years of writing from the previous prophets. After Moroni wrote his account, he buried the gold plates in the earth. Many years later, in 1820, Joseph Smith saw a vision of this same Moroni who was sent by God to tell Joseph Smith to translate the gold plates into english so that they could be read and understood. The ancient prophets wrote the Book of Mormon on gold plates and Joseph Smith was called to translate those plates. Show more Show less

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

First off it must be said that I know that the Bible is the word of God. I also know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and both are true. The Book of Mormon works hand in hand with the Bible to bring us closer to our Savior, Jesus Christ. The Book of Mormon differs in the fact that it covers a people who started in Jerusalem in 600 BC about the time of Jeremiah in the Old Testament who were commanded to travel to a promised land because of the wickedness of the people of Jerusalem at that time. The Book of Mormon is an account of Gods dealings with these people in the promised land and covers a time from 600 BC to about 427 AD. The Book of Mormon stands as another witness of Jesus Christ. The Bible stands as a witness from Jerusalem and the Book of Mormon stands as a witness of the people commanded to leave and settle the promised land which is now known as Central and South America. The last of the prophets in the Book of Mormon buried the record which was kept on plates of gold as commanded by the Lord in 427 AD. That same prophet named Moroni came to the prophet Joseph Smith in a dream and told him where the plates of gold were buried. God commanded Joseph Smith through a period of time to get these plates and to translate what was on them. They stand as a second witness the Jesus is the Christ and that we must follow Him to have eternal life. Show more Show less
