Hi I'm Carmen

I am a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.

About Me

I am a forty-two year old wife of my high school sweetheart. Together, we have four growing children - two boys, ages 19 and 16, and two girls, ages 13 and 11. I work part-time because I love what I do, I am going to college full-time to build confidence in my talents and skills, I love to read, digital scrapbook, and spend time with family and friends. I hiked the Grand Canyon in my late 30's with an all women group, have a houseful of pets, and love to cook, do family history research, and study my scriptures.

Why I am a Mormon

I have always known that there more than just this life. As I grew, I also had more questions than anyone could answer. I fell in love with my husband in high school, who was not a member of the Church. We visited every single denomination in our small community to find one we could compromise on. It didn't work. I knew that none of these other churches had the answers I was looking for. I studied the scriptures carefully, prayed even harder, and was granted a number of answers. I knew, and continue to know, in my heart that the answers I have found to my most important questions - why am I here, where am I going, what is the purpose behind it all, and what comes next - could only be answered in one place, by this one church. Whenever I have more questions, I go back to what I do know, and it all comes back in perfect clarity.

How I live my faith

I have served in each ward I have lived in differently - from Cub Scouts to family emergency planning. I have taught early morning religious classes to high school students, served in several of the women's presidency roles, but I enjoy teaching the most because it requires me to study and learn the material. I have enjoyed many opportunites to serve because each one has helped me grow and become more than I was.

What is the priesthood?

Carmen
The Priesthood is the authority and power men are given to act in Christ's name. As an independent young woman I struggled with this particular question because I thought it was limiting women or keeping something from them. I came to realize that all organizations have authority given to some and not others within them. While women are not able to hold the Priesthood, nothing is withheld from women - even men who hold the Priesthood aren't able to use it for their own personal benefit, they also have to turn to another Priesthood holder to receive its blessings. Every woman is able to ask for and receive help or assistance from any Priesthood holder at any time. Show more Show less

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Carmen
A testimony is a witness from God through the Holy Ghost that what we are hearing, is in fact, truth. It is shared spirit to spirit and can be gained in no other way. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Carmen
Yes! The center of our religion is Jesus the Christ, the Son of the Everlasting God, who, through his Son, created the heavens and the earth for our use and benefit. All that we do in our meetinghouses, our temples, and how we live our lives is to remind us of the great redeeming sacrifice Christ made for us through the Atonement, which allows us the blessing of being able to return to live in the presence of our Heavenly Father.
