Hi I'm Daniel S.

I grew up in Arizona. I want to be a medical researcher. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm going to college, majoring in Physiology and Developmental Biology. I just started to do research in a cancer lab. I love to be in the outdoors; running, hiking, swimming, camping and the like. I'm the youngest of four kids, and have 3 nieces and 2 nephews. I'm trying to teach myself piano and guitar, and I am working on being able to hold a conversation in several languages.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this church, learning about God and Jesus Christ. I have heard and read the stories of the prophets, both ancient and modern, my whole life. So I guess it just made sense that I was baptized a member of the church. But the reason I am a Mormon today has nothing to do with what my parents or friends believe. I am a Mormon because I know, from personal study and prayer and from multiple witnesses of the Holy Ghost, that Jesus is the Christ. I know that Heavenly Father loves me and wants me to be happy. I know that because of His love for the world He has called prophets in our day and age, beginning with Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon is a witness to me of God's love, and it brings me peace and understanding in life. I once knew a man who said that if everything I believed was true, it wouldn't matter if it didn't make life better or happier. I am a Mormon because it does. It makes me so happy, and helps me know what I need to do.

How I live my faith

To me, living my religion means a lot more than just attending church on Sunday, although I do do that. It means visiting the members of my ward, being their friends, seeking ways to serve, care and love them. It means practicing Christ-like charity and seeking for the well-being of others.

Do Mormons worship Joseph Smith?

Daniel S.
No we do not. He was a great prophet, given a great responsibility in these last days to restore the gospel and priesthood authority to the Earth. In 1830, under the direction of our Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ, Joseph Smith reorganized the Church of Jesus Christ on the Earth. Because of this and the many teachings received from God through him, we respect and honor the prophet Joseph Smith. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Daniel S.
While I was in high school, my best friend was of the Lutheran faith. We would often talk about our beliefs in God and Jesus Christ. I was always impressed by his conviction an faith in Christ. One of the biggest things that we couldn't seem to agree on was what we must do to be saved. He believed that we must only accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, and then we will receive his grace and be saved. As Mormons, we know that it is only through Jesus Christ's atonement, His sufferings and death for us, that we can be saved. There is nothing that I can do on my own to be saved, for I am sinner. But we know that there are things that the Lord requires of us to receive His saving grace. We must have faith in Him, accept His Gospel, repent of our sins, be baptized, receive the Holy Ghost in our lives and continue in faith and obedience to His commandments till the end. That is what we mean when we say we believe that we are saved by grace, "after all we can do." We must use the Lord's atonement to change our lives and follow His teachings. Show more Show less

What is the Law of Chastity?

Daniel S.
The Law of Chastity is the collection of rules that the Lord has placed on the sacred relationship between man and wife. These rules were given from God since the very beginning, when God commanded Adam to "cleave unto Eve and none else." The Law of Chastity declares that no one should have any form of sexual relationship outside the bonds of marriage between a man and a woman. This is includes the avoidance of pornography, masturbation, and homosexual relationships. Be following the commandments that the Lord has give us, we have the promise of strong, eternal families. I know that keeping this commandment brings the Spirit into our lives and protects us from the evils of Satan in this world. Show more Show less
